Yep.  Time to Roll Those Classic Autos back out of 'storage', tune 'em up and Hit The Road!!! [Jack]
As you know I try not to use Beach Boys related songs which have competed before...So... ... ...

Just Ahead of Spring 2018 ... Time to Spruce Up the Classic Auto Songs for a Brand New Season as well.

And who better to kick off this subject matter than the Boys who put car songs on the road map in a truly meaningful way in the first place...So first in terms of this week's choices...and for the very first time here in 'the Battle'...

Then there's the group Bruce came from...[apart from Bruce and Terry that is...]...along with the guy who would produce an album for the Boys... He'd also write some music in a vain attempt to try and save SIP.  But enough about that.  This was their followup to the huge hit single 'Hey Little Cobra'...

Not to be outdone...Brian Wilson friends and contemporaries [at the time] ... These guys would record a bunch of Brian songs in '63, and ''64.  They also went on to share the stage with Brian and the Boys, as the guest MC's, at the T.A.M.I. Show in '65...

And 1 more...'cause there has to be 4.  These great pretenders from Nashville Tennessee, of all places, had 15 singles but only 2 albums to their credit.  This one was their biggest hit out of the lot.  And a very BIG hit it was.

So...while Al does the math for 2018's Battle #3...and while land-fill sites far and wide wait with gaping anticipation for the latest, largest delivery EVER... ... ...

Ladies and Gentlemen...Start Your Engines!!!

Beach Boys...'Car Crazy Cutie'
Rip Chords...'3 Window Coupe'
Jan and Dean...'Drag City'
Ronnie and the Daytonas...'Little GTO'

Lee, it looks like the dump won't accept my truck so I may have to go to recycling instead.

Meantime this looks like a four-wheel delight week from you.  Awesome.  I may vote early.

I'm still crunching.

For my money, nobody did car songs like The Beach Boys

Gold - The Beach Boys  for this underrated gem Car Crazy Cutie

Silver - Jan and Dean

Bronze - Rip Chords

Tin - Ronnie & the Daytonas

all 4 songs are great.  But gotta go with:

1.  "Car Crazy Cutie"  (better than 'Pamela Jean').  Maybe a little Dion, but some satire there too, about the axle grease and plugs.  Plus, my fave singer is in top form.  The car and Annette F. look awesomely beautiful too.

2. "Three Window Coupe" by the Rip Chords, although I know it more by the Jan & Dean version, on probably J & D's best album: "Dead Man's Curve/New Girl In School."  Co-written by the man who co-wrote my favorite song, 'Don't Worry, Baby.'  No foolin'. (Roger Christian)

3.  "Drag City" by Jan & Dean, burning up that quarter mile  (and in the pic, Jan is cool personified)

4. "Little GTO" by Ronnie & the Datonas

even 4th place is good this week; cool car, I've owned two Mustangs that last forever, but never a 389

Lee, We had spring through most of February and now it's back to winter.  But. on an unseasonably warm day you'll see people back their cars out of the garage to give them a wash and wax.  Inevitably, the next day is bound to bring rain or snow.  It's Murphy's Law.

I'll go with:

Gold - Car Crazy Cutie/Beach Boys.

Silver - Little GTO / Ronnie and the Daytonas.

Bronze -  Drag City/Jan & Dean.

Tin- Three Window Coupe/The Rip Chords.

My final answer.

Forgive me, since I don't own a cellphone (Ladybird is right! that's how the government tracks you!), but if I were tech-smart like you guys, I'd add the song "Seaside Bar Song (Get Your Wheels & Roll)" by Bruce Springsteen.  Should have been the bridge from 'Wild, the Innocent'/to 'BTR'...

So far the Beach Boys little album track from the 'Little Deuce Coupe' album is out in the lead.  The other 3 songs were all top 40 hits.  Ronnie and the Daytonas peaked at #4 in '64.  Jan and Dean at #10 earlier that same year...and a little later in '64 the Rip Chords would only reach #29 with '3 Window Coupe' after hitting #4 with 'Hey Little Cobra'.  'Car Crazy Cutie' which always sounded so colossally HUGE [and great] on my Dad's old component hi-fi, was a 1963 release.

Gotta say I liked the added speed and musicality of the Terry Melcher version of '3 Window Coupe'.  Jan and Dean's attempt sounded like it needed some buffin' and pollishin'.

Yes Cindy...I got the Mustang out on the road March 2nd.  I usually take 'er off the road for December, January and February.  This spring has been awfully shy.

Anyway...thanks for your votes.  You too John and KDS.  I like my car tunes to  R O C K.

More about driving that about a car, but this ripper from Deep Purple can cause a serious case of lead foot.

Speaking of lead....or Led

Slowing things down a little, here's Hot Rod Heart by John Fogerty

Finally, Yngwie Malmsteen does some shredding on his hot rod song

That's awesome.  One of Ritchie Blackmore's finest moments.

I got to see Deep Purple open with Highway Star this past summer.   Unfortunately, Ian Gillan's vocals were a little worse for the wear.

I'll toss in some good Chuck Berry cruisin' music, "No Particular Place to Go", from 1964:

And Springsteen's "Racing in the Street", from his classic 1978 album, Darkness on the Edge of Town. And, yes, you're hearing a melancholic take on the melody of the old Martha & The Vandella's hit "Dancing in the Street":

And here's to the "hottest" car of all time, Al Jardine's "PT Cruiser":

If any of you ever owned a standard or customized Chrysler PT Cruiser, I dare you to 'fess up to it!

Well thar ya go then!!!  Thanks GGH for the enthusiasm, Tom and Bonnie for the 'tuneage' and the 'participational' posts.  KDS...Watch out for THIS Bad Boy if you don't want to stomp the pedal right through the metal...It ain't a car song...but...it's a sure bet to get your bad 'backside a speeding ticket.

That last line's a killer.  [rofl] So's this one...gettin' back on 'topic'...

Probably 'wobbly' from the Cabo Wabo consumption.  [wink]  Oh well.  He's a man.  S'O.K. [biggrin]
