Last-second bells

GOLD - Car Crazy Cutie.  Props for it starting with Annette being all leggy getting in or out of her car.  Not a song I'd ever play though.  Ever.  Lotta women drive in unusual positions, huh?  Must try that legs-out-the-window thing.

SILVER - Ronnie and the Daytonas.  Nice lead vocal, otherwise, I'm out.

BRONZE - The Rip Chords.  Who??  Um.

TIN - Jan and Dean.  Nope.  It wasn't surfing and cars that caught my ears with the Beach Boys.  And these two do nothing for me, even when they've stolen the keys.

Nothing much between them.  In fact, you could string them all together and they might be one long skidmark.

Thanks Lee.

OK...The Beach Boys win.  13 out of 18 first places votes and 63 of 72 possible points.  Checkered flag.
Ronnie and the Daytonas?  2nd...45 points.  11 second place finishes sewed it up.
Jan and Dean were caught and passed in the last 4 opportunities...3rd  42.  4 firsts but 8 3rds.

And toilet paper...sorry the Rip Chords wipin' up the rear with a mere 30 points and no firsts plus 8 lasts.

Thanks to all 18 participants.  All the best to GGH and her week 5.

Well done, Lee. (You had 18 participants.)

The figures for ‘Car Crazy Cutie’ (63 points and 35.00%) put it into play-off territory.

Surprisingly, it is only the fourth track that appears on Little Deuce Coupe to be used in the Battle.

Its record:

Ballad of Ole’ Betsy (a Bronze in Week 10 of Season IV - Jo McGuire),
Car Crazy Cutie (a Gold in Week 4 of Season IX - Lee Marshall),
Cherry, Cherry Coupe (a Silver in Week 14 of Season VI - Peter Simpson),
409 (a Gold in Week 34 of Season III - Deb#1; a Bronze in Week 13 of Season V - Peter Simpson)

‘All Dressed Up for School’, from the 2001 reissue and first released in 1990, won the Bronze in Week 29 of Season V (Frankie Teardrop).

The well-known live version of ‘Little Deuce Coupe’ ("Right now we'd like to show you how the Beach Boys go about making a record") won the Tin in Week 45 of Season I (Cynthia D. Hood).

The single version of ‘Be True to Your School’ has been used twice.

Its record:

- a Silver in Week 40 of Season IV, 6th in Silver Play-Off (snoops71),
- a Gold in Week 1 of Season VI, 9th in Preliminary Final (Lee Marshall)

A live version of ‘Shut Down’ won the Gold in Week 25 of Season VI (bonnie bella).

‘Drag City’ is the seventh Jan & Dean entry in the Battle.

Their record:

Like a Summer Rain (a Tin in Week 30 of Season I, 6th in Tin Play-Off - Verden McCutcheon),

Three Window Coupe (a Bronze in Week 31 of Season III - t Bedford),

Dead Man’s Curve (a Bronze in Week 12 of Season V, 4
th in Bronze Play-Off - Darren J. Ray),

Ride the Wild Surf (a Silver in Week 31 of Season V - Verden McCutcheon),

The Little Old Lady from Pasadena (a Bronze in Week 37 of Season V, 2
nd in Bronze Play-Off - snoops71),

Surf City (a Bronze in Week 36 of Season VII - Larry Franz),

Drag City (a Bronze in Week 4 of Season IX - Lee Marshall)

The Rip Chords’ ‘Three Window Coupe’ features Terry Melcher and Bruce Johnston.

Bruce & Terry’s ‘Summer Means Fun’ won the Silver in Week 31 of Season III (t Bedford). Jan & Dean’s version of ‘Three Window Coupe’ won the Bronze that week.
