Coming May 28 , according to an interview with Al posted on his FB page! Although I know there is alot of repetition on Sirius artist specific channels, I think this will be a real positive for the group. I'm looking forward not only to the music, but to the interviews as well.

What do you think?

Thanks for the news, RC!  Although I'm a little leery about the thought of interviews (perhaps they can exclude anyone with a middle name of Edward)...having their music reach yet another generation is outstanding.  And as Rich said, 'about time.'

That's the deal they keep sending me.

I might sign up as I tend to make the three hour or so trek to the beach 4-5 times during the summer, and having The Beach Boys for those rides would be nice.

It would take just 1 lowly, weaselly, mean-spirited, repetitive, vibe-killing, myth-ending, nourishment and revenge influenced interview to RUIN the whole thing.

Promise me that they'll almost never play anything from Surfin Safari unless it's programmed with intelligence and with a 'flourish' providing the reason for it being included...Promise too that they be VERY picky and choosy about what they include from the post Holland/Concert '73 era...that tracks from SOME solo albums will be used to augment and accent the proceedings...that there'll be no John Stamos warbled songs period...but that there WILL be choice tracks from Wondermints/Nelson Bragg/Jeffrey Foskett etc. records with suitable "flourish" again providing the reason for their inclusion...that 'they' will shuffle the programming at least twice a week so that it just doesn't roll over and over and over again like an electric train going round in an oval circle...and that there will be a knowledgeable 'host' [or hosts] for all of this... ... ...and then I might consider $pending $ome time with it.

Did I mention that there can be NO VENOMOUS interviews?  Not one.

Some songs should be played twice as often as some others.  Some should be played 1/2 as often as the average.  Given a 24 hour clock...surely there is enough material to provide a rotation of at least 37 hours.  The 'shuffles' should occur 2 hours after midnight PDT.

Maybe every Sunday night at 6:00 Pacific...9:00 Eastern... [sorry UK] an album could be featured in it's entirety.  there must be 18 which could be featured...as some aren't worthy.  That means that it would happen for any specific album a maximum of just 3 times a year...thus making it special without running the risk of burning the l.p. out.  THAT really is the thing which must be avoided at all costs.  Don't burn out any album or any song for that matter.  Burn the best stuff out and what have you got left to play?  0.  So don't do it.

Better to include ...on a long, long rotation... some carefully chosen special songs which the Beach Boys participated in...with folks like Elton, Chicago, Johnny Rivers, Pink Floyd, Jan and Dean, Henry Gross plus others who did entirely credible jobs recording Beach Boys songs...Folks like B.J. Thomas, D.L. Roth, Deja Vu, Ray Charles, and dozens upon dozens of lesser known but still talented people who have paid tribute the the Beach Boy's body of work.  One of those every 3 hours or so would be great.  And it would help to extend out the rotation while adding to the bands international and far reaching credibility in terms of their influence.  You might even consider playing some unique recordings by people who were obviously and clearly influenced by the Beach Boys and by Brian's outstanding abilities to arrange songs.  Folks like Alan Boyd, Dave Edmunds, REM, 10CC and even the Beatles come to mind.  No need for over-kill... ... ...ever.  The rotation on these songs could run, probably, a couple to 3 weeks.  Regular listeners might hear them about once a month.  GOOD ENOUGH.

One has to mention at some point, as well, that any kind of negative interview with any of the surviving members of the band would be a channel annihilator.

And THIS could all be augmented with the occasional 'bootleg' track...perhaps once every 6 hours or so...maybe once every 8 hours...as a special bonus programming surprise...again with the 'flourish'.  Maybe it's time the 'Boys' began to benefit from their 'boots'.  Better take care of your feet Pete.  "cause nobody else will".

Oh...and regarding 'duophonic' versions of songs?  Perhaps they could roll one once a month, or so, as a demonstration of why the concept was a bad idea and why it never really caught on.  THAT is, after all, part of the history...and their story.  If it's going to be a true depiction of the band...at least from a musical perspective...Capitol is going to have to take the odd wack.  [and they deserve to.]  [Lying about Pet Sounds and its sales figures and cheating the 'Boys' out of their rightful royalties being just one of the many STUPID things Capitol tried to 'pull'...thus creating nothing but a lose/lose situation for everyone involved.]

Remember...NO interviews with bald guys...unless certain 'proclamations' are completely and totally edited OUT without fail or exception. [like certain guys can't be allowed on the air live.]  ((...unless all they're doin' is singin'.))  {{{No wait......not even THEN.}}}  [eek]  What was I thinking!!!  [eek]

I listen to the Sirius Beatles channel a lot and they play a lot of alternate takes of songs. I think it would cause jaw dropping amazement for people to hear the vocal only tracks of BB songs.
Also, a Smile special would be great.
This could be awesome... IF done right.
Is this one of those temporary channels Sirius puts up? Wondering because May 28 is around Memorial Day, beginning of summer season. If a temporary channel they would unfortunately be more likely to stay with the hits and not do so many deeper cuts. But it’s a start.

As a very limited, disinterested and part-time listener of any and all thing 'sirius' i have yet to be impressed.  That doesn't mean that they can't find a way to do things better...and the fact that there are no commercials is OK...I suppose.  But if they won't spend a little money to do it right...to me, they're nothing but a glorified jukebox and they need to get serious.  Otherwise?  It's pretty much a money-grab...taking advantage of people who are truly being served and serviced ever-so-poorly by what has become of their local radio stations.

Gravity is grave.  And 'it all' falls DOWN.

I sure do hope the Beach Boys thing isn't an experiment.  If it is...they better do it right.  1/2-assed and 1/2 measures are unacceptable.  And only the hits?  Maybe a hit-fest Saturday once every 3 months as a highlight.  But every day?  The novelty would wear off before the season next changes.

I wonder if it will be a full time thing like The Beatles, Elvis, and Springsteen channels or if it'll just be for the Summer?   I know they did have a temporary Sirius/XM channel during the Reunion.   Regardless I hope they make it interesting.  Meaning deep cuts along with the hits.   Perhaps some live never before released concerts especially from the early 70s.   And I guess solo cuts too although I know a lot of fans will object to the thought of a certain someone having his solo songs played on the channel.πŸ˜‰   But it could benefit Brian too for those who haven't paid attention to him outside of The Beach Boys to hear that he has made some good to just about excellent music in his solo career as well.

πŸ˜‰  <  Indeed Jeremy.  I get that there will have to be some solo Mike 'stuff'...But they will have to be really, REALLY picky about it.  It's why I don't want too much Surfin Safari material played.  'It' just takes too much of a nose-dive from a qualitative point of view.  It's off-putting...as I'm sure most of Mike's solo and Celebration 'attempts' are.  There isn't an overabundance of Carl material to play either...maybe 6 or 7 songs?  Same for Al [although the live in Vegas album is outstanding].  Bruce?  Even less.  David has a few tracks which could be featured.  They could do a whatever happened to 'thing' and feature something rhythmic from Bonnie Raitt featuring Ricky on the drums and percussion...maybe something Blondie did with the Stones...plus those tracks he's been on with Brian...and Guess I'm Dumb and maybe something else Glen played on as a Wrecking Crew studio musician...

There are ways to spread out the rotation and give the various guys some spotlight time...if they don't over-do it 'cause there's only so many songs good enough to include without subjecting the over-all standards to a fatal crash.

Dennis has a few more to choose from plus all of the guys have very good lead vocal contributions which they've recorded down through the years...even Bruce.  [many of his and Terry's Rip Chords songs are terrific.]

But as is the case with reality...and the songs performed at any and every show whether it's Brian and the crew or the Beached Boys up on stage...It's Brian Wilson songs which dominate.  THAT has to and MUST be the case with this sirius 'venture'.  Most people want variety.  The Beach Boys were talented enough to be able to provide that almost better than any other meaningful band to ever record a song.

Doing it right would be easy with the right person/people contributing to making it happen and with the members and contingents of B.R.I. making any and all 'product' available...especially the unlicensed recordings.

If sirius is only offering to do this 'part time'?  It's an insult.

Dan.  Yer a naughty fella. [biggrin]

And...no...I don't wanna hear that one.

I want to mainly hear them after they found their sound...and...before they lost it.
