Hi guys,

sorry, gotta get up early. No time in the morning.

So this might be

- about openers,
- about Brian,
- about nailing it in one minute,
- about battles for the busy

There's no time like the present (a truism if ever there was one).

Gold -- Think About The Days
Silver -- Our Prayer
Bronze -- This Beautiful Day
Pewter -- Lucky Old Sun

Everyone's "That's Why God Made Pier Pressure" playlist should contain both "This Beautiful Day" and "Think About the Days". Beautiful work from Brian.

Here's a contribution to world culture. It The video might not stay up online very long (appropriately for this week):

The Beach Boys -- "California Girls" Intro Only

Thank you, Cantina.

Now back to bonnie's week.

Nope, I'll be a lady and resist questioning any cryptic message there, Larry.

I blame it on Benny Hill:   [wink]

I was thinking of the video's immediate copyright violation, but "it" can refer to so many things, as Mr. Hill well knew. A clarification has been made.  [smile]

Hey, Cantina.

Good battle.

I hope you don't mind, but I've pasted the clips into the original post. As well as making them accessible on this site, it will also help me when posting the clips at the completion of the season (and if some of them make play-offs).

For anyone who isn't sure, I believe that version of 'Our Prayer' is from The Smile Sessions.

Cantina, Easy votes on the "short and sweets". And here goes:

GOLD: Our Prayer - Brian was in rarefied air during Smile.
SILVER: This Beautiful Day - beautiful alright.
BRONZE: Lucky Old Sun - still my favorite Brian album of this millennium.
TIN: Think About The Days - nice, but can't hang with what's above.

Clear cut voting from me this week.

Here's my order:

1. Our Prayer

2. Lucky Old Sun

3. Think About the Days

4. This Beautiful Day

Meanwhile, the Scottish psych-folk department can do short as well as they do long!

1. The Incredible String Band - The Son of Noah's Brother (16 seconds):

2. Mike and Solveig: Infinite Reflection of the Golden Sandwich (1 min 36 secs):

There aren't a lot of tracks under a minute by typical musicians. For instance:

Brian Eno -- "Don't Look Back"

Nine Inch Nails -- "Eater of Dreams"

Seven short selections from Sufjan Stevens

I was going to post the Beatles' Can You Take Me Back and instead find a two minute plus version.🙃

Here’s one of my most favorite short songs. It clocks in at 58 seconds.

Of course if you’ve got the time...

ah, brevity.
never got the hang of it, m'self.
i tend to ramble on and on and...

but, a clear example of short'n'sweet
(no, no 'short'nin' bread')
is to be found opening the 'friends' album.
38 seconds of bliss...
it figures centrally in the repertoire on show
during this most recent bw / a jardine / blondie c tour
where the band offer us the side one opening trio of
'meant for you' / 'friends' / 'wake the world'
(then straight into 'busy doin' nothin''
followed later in the set by
'little bird'

and 'diamondhead'
so featuring a tidy chunk of this album).
glorious stuff!

here's my alltime heroes
the bonzo dog doo dah band
the outfit that brought us sheer brilliant art school irreverance,
guerilla pop,
jazz, crooning and dada cacophony
with their 1967 debut album
'gorilla'
.

here's opening volley
(the name, 32 years later, gets appropriated by the spirit of the blair government,
the 'new labour' project,
which promised optimism and attracted the arty coattail tuggers,
the next generation's 'swinging london'...
but, hey, let's celebrate the original)
'cool britannia

'i left my heart in san francisco'

and the album's closer
(comes in under the 1 minute if you strip off the spoken intro,
so, i'm hoping to be getting away with it,
even though the intro is essential).
'the sound of music'
as you've never heard it
(and a live  tv clip to go with it
from the remarkable pre-monty python 'do not adjust your set').

Sorry, I like the idea of making a little public playlist for BOTB purposes. What I didn't have in mind is that these are statistics and transparency, apart from clicking and listening.

But what if I post an entire album of 1:00 minute songs ?

(right, it's only a question of time for me to bother you with the Residents)

Or should I post 40 single links instead ?[confused]

Here's only one for your comfort, in order to highlight my favourite Commercial album track (also available at 20:28). Mr. Lithman on lead.

But no. This is an entire album, not a playlist.

i say, old chap,
the bonzos's vivian stanshall made use of eyeballs
before the residents were dreamt up.
essential rock'n'roll accessories?

Aaargh - not the Residents again.

I'll get a quick one or two before weeks end.
