Delightful battle this week, bonnie! I love good instrumentals and you've picked some lovely ones this week.

Gold -- "Albatross", Fleetwood Mac. One of my all-time favorites -- gorgeous! And I agree with your comment about Peter Green's significance in early Fleetwood Mac. After Santana's big hit "Black Magic Woman", in the early '70s, I was amazed to learn a few years later that it was originally an early Fleetwood Mac song written by Peter Green.

Silver -- "Bitchin' Summer", Bangles. A great throwback to those fun 60s surf guitar instrumentals with a more modern twist. I'm so glad you shared this song with us last week and again in this week's battle. It was new to me and I love it. Will have to check out which Bangles album it was released on.

Bronze -- "Women of Ireland", Jeff Beck, et al. Another lovely song, and one that I had not heard before this week's battle. Beck's guitar work is always a delight, and I loved the violin accompaniment.

Tin -- "Diamond Head", Beach Boys. I've always loved this song until the tempo shift in the middle of the song, but then that part breaks the sonorous mood. In fact, back in the 70s and the days of creating mix tapes, I only recorded the first half of this song then cut it off at the tempo shift.

Reporting in from beautiful Florence this week while on an extended vacation in Italy. What a lovely country and so rich in history, art, and gastronomy! Ciao!

So much music still to listen to this week, I'll have time in the morning for some closer analysis.  David, I do like Kinobe, very laid back.  Thank you.

My votes are as follows.  (originally was not going to vote, but, why not?)

GOLD - Jeff Beck and Tal and the other two.  Fabulous because it's understated and soft, but also very lovely.

SILVER - Albatross.   Maybe I've heard it too many times, but that doesn't matter in the slightest.  It;s still gorgeous, and if that bird in the picture is a seagull I forgive all seagulls for their swoopy food stealing, nest robbing, and messy droppings.  Just stay out to sea!

BRONZE - The Bangles. Interesting information around Hoff (naked) and the girls this week.  I liked this instrumental from the first time I heard it.

TIN - TBB.  It's pretty.  Anyone would think to listen to it that Diamond Head was a place in Hawaii or something.  [wink]

Some may recognise this song.  Here's the instrumental version.

Fun (or odd) fact on that T-Bones (aka The Wrecking Crew) track.

It was featured in an Alka-Seltzer ad 50 years ago:

Whether that was a feather in the cap or a kick in the pants for The Crew may be up for discussion...

Ta very much to the following voters..

kds. thanks for the great clips this week, including the early Genesis song, I wasn't expecting that!  Hoff forgives you too for giving her your tin, I'm sure.

Cindy, an early gold for the boys, they would be delighted when it's up against a song like "Albatross".  There lies a true fan.

Peter, delighted to see you award The Bangles a gold.  I think it's a bitchen' song too.

Larry, excellent contributions this week, and I'm still working my way through the surf songs.

Gracie, just thanks for always being there!

John B, I blame you for the seagull/albatross debate I'm having with myself.  Always look forward to your comments, you make me laugh.  (Apologies if you're not trying too.)

t, that "Space Child" song is pretty weird, but I wouldn't expect any less from you.  "Like, Long Hair" is a pretty cool piano piece.

David, always interesting to see what music you chuck in the ring.  Nothing wrong with a little Duane Eddy, who I was introduced to through a certain Mr Gump some twenty years ago.

Lee, "A little silver medal" [biggrin]  And I thought you might find The Bangles funky, but it didn't even get turd!

Verden, we voted the same.

Al, a very interesting order of votes. That was a first for Albatross to sink so low, and you've seen all four bands in concert?? Amazing.  YOLO.

Lisa, I used to wonder what bangs were when I was a kid, they sounded painful.  And was that a real ad?  Holy cow nobody was very politically correct.  LOVE that guitar solo from Chet.  A laid back guitar sound is one of the nicest sounds in the world.

Darren, instant recognition when "Tijuana Taxi" started.  Hadn't heard that in years.

Tom, this holiday sounds like rather a drag, so I'm glad four old songs brightened your days up and gave you something to do for the day. [wink]  Thanks for voting while you're away.

paul, nothing grabbed you?  I could tell a joke about a budgie, but I'll spare the board.  You might know it already...

I hope I haven't missed anybody!

GOLD
Albatross
... an indisputable rock classic

SILVER
Bitchen' Summer
.. a level the Spotnicks and Shadows would have loved to reach

BRONZE
Women Of Ireland
...a piece of guitar art ... strange picking technique

CRACKY TIN FOIL BETWEEN MY AMALGAM FILLINGS AFTER EATING OLD CHEAP DÖNER KEBAP
Diamond Head
... a nice and undisturbing sonic workout for my latest photo slideshow from Playa De Palma
... they deserved it because they didn't like worms ... -sigh-

Here's one I like a lot

... the mother of all end title songs in TV soccer shows, showing the goal of the day in super slow motion

Cheers

The first LP I ever bought with my own money was 'Surfing' by the Ventures. This was my favorite track:
Ventures - Party in Laguna

Seagull: Check out the white wing tops, and compare to the...
[00Q4jS-54662084]

Albatross: Notice the dark color of the top side of the wings....just like the bird in the video. Mystery solved.

Thanks, Cantina, Deb, and DAN for those last votes.

SILVER - Women of Ireland  49               4 Gold, 5 Silver, 6 Bronze, 3 Tin

Thought you might enjoy that one, Darren.

That song was in the green book.  I skipped the first one, from memory.

I'll tell my brother to work on his Spanish.  He's a doctor now (in training).
