Hey Deb,

Speaking of quiet, easy Sundays, here's a couple more:

One Carole King classic that fits Melinda and Brian's relationship nicely (I prefer this over James Taylor's version - it seems more heartfelt):

Another CK tune that lyrically seems like a good anthem to take back the world from all the gloom and doom lately:

In the middle of several weeks vacation throughout Spain with my wife, including several fun days visiting Madrid with Pete Simpson, with little time to connect to our BOTBs.

Briefly, my votes this week:

Gold — “Our House”, CSNY. An early 70s favorite from those hippy-dippy days of yore. Sounds kind of trite now, but evocative of my college and grad school years.

Silver — “The First Time”, Brian. When that live double album came out all those years ago, it was nice to hear this lovely new song from Brian.

Bronze — “Pink Cadillac”, Natalie Cole. Fun 80’s-style pop version of the Springsteen classic.

Tin — “Fix You”, Coldplay. Another good song but I just haven’t heard it enough times to grow on me.

Apologies for having to miss voting in last week’s battle.

Good battle this week Deb!

Thanks Tom for voting…from Spain!  And thanks Lisa for the Carole King.  I don’t quite wake up with a smile on my face every day.  Waking to Carole’s music might do it.

So, for the totals this week, 16 people voted putting 160 total points in play.  It was a contest at the top between Brian Wilson’s “The First Time” and CSN&Y’s “Our House”.  And it was a contest at the bottom for Natalie Cole’s Pink Cadillac and Coldplay’s Fix You.

The stats:
Gold - Brian Wilson - The First Time (Remastered)
         49.5 points, 7 Gold, 3 Silver, 4 Bronze, 1 Tin, 1 Gold/Silver Tie

Silver - Crosby, Stills, Nash, and Young - Our House (Remastered Version)
         42.5 points, 4 Gold, 3 Silver, 6 Bronze, 2 Tin, 1 Gold/Silver Tie

Bronze - Natalie Cole - Pink Cadillac (1988)
         34.5 points, 1 Gold, 6 Silver, 3 Bronze, 5 Tin, 1 Bronze/Tin Tie

Tin – Coldplay - Fix You
         33.5 points, 3 Gold, 3 Silver, 2 Bronze, 7 Tin, 1 Bronze/Tin Tie

My thanks to all that voted.
And thanks to Melinda for being the wind beneath Brian’s wing.  I hope her birthday was very joyful.
A final song to end…the power of love:
"In This Life" - Israel Kamakawiwo'ole

GGH is well on her way this week...check out her Battle of the Brians!

Well done, Deb.

Those scores are in the book.

‘The First Time’ is just the second track from Live at the Roxy Theatre to be used in the Battle.

‘Let’s Go Away for Awhile’ won Silver in Week 22 of Season II (Deborah O’Neill), beaten by .5 of a point by ‘Drift Away’ by Dobie Gray.

‘Our House’ was the seventh entry for Crosby, Stills, Nash & Young, or a combination thereof.

Their results have been:

Southern Cross (a Silver in Week 32 of Season I - Prodigal Son),

To the Last Whale: Critical Mass/Wind on the Water (a Bronze in Week 10 of Season III, 9th in Bronze Play-Off - Tom Tobben),

Southern Cross (a Silver in Week 6 of Season VI, 6th in Silver Play-Off - bonnie bella),

Almost Cut My Hair (live) (a Silver in Week 30 of Season VI - paul g adsett),

Teach Your Children (a Gold in Week 27 of Season VIII - Cindy Hood),

Our House (a Silver in Week 33 of Season VIII - Deb#1)

‘Pink Cadillac’ was Natalie Cole’s first time in the Battle.

‘Fix You’ was Coldplay’s second entry.

‘Clocks’ (album version) won a Silver in Week 8 this season (Cindy Hood).
