Had to google the lyric phrase as I couldn't remember the name of the song:

Ha ha hardee har har, Dan!  Good thing you didn't think the title was "A Betty's Nice", as I remember some have said.

And ladies.....speaking of nice, observe Denny around 1:25 in that video.    Ohhhh...myyyy...

I didn't know who The Egg was...but I'm beginning to feel a kindred spirit. A very old young spirit or a very young old spirit. When two of the contenders are from the olden times I am smiling.
Gold - The Diamonds - Little Darlin'
Silver -The Beach Boys - Darlin'
Bronze - Al Trace - You Call Everybody Darlin' ( been there after a drink or two, no?)
Tin - The Doobie Bros - Little Darlin', not that there's anything wrong with this one...
So, Egg, Darlin', one for you:

To allay any confusion, here again is the video that DAN deleted. Nobody should miss out on Denny at around 1:25.

1.23 seconds of anticipation and eyebrow-raising Mike Love outfits.  Totally worth it.

WOW!

That was a fun time hosting a week on BOTB’s......made me feel all shiny inside and out......

....sorry for the wait but here are the results for a darling week....

GOLD.......The Beach Boys with a total of 77 points!!!

SILVER.... goes to our 1950’s crooners, The ♦️Diamonds ♦️ with 51 points!

BRONZE..the last two entries were tied with 36 points each so a countback gave us a single gold vote to the Doobies to earn the bronze title

TIN...........oh so close for our 1940’s friends but they go home dead last with also 36 points but alas, no gold

Aggregate was 200 points comprised of 20 voters

Thanks so much to all who participated this week......you are all Darlings to me!!!

Cheers,

The Egg

Well done, The Egg.

Congrats on your debut week in the cup. And well hosted.

It was the second time ‘Darlin’’ had been used.

It won the Gold in Week 2 of Season IV (Cindy Hood) with 60 points and 31.58% from 19 voters.

It didn’t make play-offs.

This time, the 2017 re-master scored 77 and 38.50 from 20 voters.

With the 3rd highest points for the year and 3rd highest percentage and only six weeks to go, it seems a certainty we’ll hear it again this year in the final week.

The Doobie Brothers were the only other act with a history in the Battle.

Their record:

Long Train Runnin’ (a Silver in Week 25 of Season II, 9th in Silver Play-Off - Roy Roger Bridge),
Another Park, Another Sunday (a Bronze in Week 14 of Season III - Cynthia D. Hood),
Little Darling (I Need You) (a Bronze in Week 39 of Season VIII - The Egg)

The first two songs featured Tom Johnston on lead vocals.

Michael McDonald has appeared just once before, solo, with ‘I Keep Forgettin' (Every Time You're Near)’. It won the Tin in Week 23 of Season I (Pete Simpson).

Only Tom Tobben’s solitary Gold saved McDonald from another Tin this time.

‘You Call Everybody Darlin’’ is the fifth oldest record we’ve used in the Battle so far.

10 records recorded before 1956 have been used in the Battle.

They are:

Rhapsody In Blue (George Gershwin - 1924) (a Gold in Week 8 of Season I, 3rd in Preliminary Final, 9th in Gold Play-Off - Tom Tobben; a Silver in Week 18 of Season VII, 7th in Preliminary Final - Cindy Hood)

Goodnight, Irene (Leadbelly - 1944) (a Bronze in Week 40 of Season III, 6th in Bronze Play-Off - Tom Tobben)

Strange Fruit (Billie Holiday - 1944) (a Silver in Week 26 of Season VIII - Cindy Hood)

La Mer (Charles Trenet - 1946) (a Silver in Week 30 of Season II - Paul Adsett)

You Call Everybody Darlin’ (Al Trace And His New Orchestra; Vocal by Bob Vincent -  1948) (a Tin in Week 39 of Season VIII - The Egg)

Mona Lisa (Nat King Cole - 1950) (a Tin in Week 10 of Season IV, 1st in Tin Play-Off - Jo McGuire)

The Dummy Song (Louis Armstrong - 1953) (a Silver in Week 32 of Season VIII - Lisa G/TS)

Smile (Nat King Cole - 1954) (a Gold in Week 40 of Season II - Teenage Symphony)

Maybelline (Chuck Berry - 1955) (a Gold in Week 38 of Season IV - brent mcmullen)

I Remember You (The Four Freshmen - 1955) (a Bronze in Week 4 of Season VIII - Al Forsyth)

Antonio Vivaldi’s ‘La primavera (Spring)’, published in 1725, won a Silver in Week 19 of Season IV and finished 4th in the Silver Play-Off (Tom Tobben).

We were unable to establish for certain the year of the recording Tom used, or who it was playing, but it’s fair to say it was a lot later than 1725!
