Larry,

Personally, I think the Spirit v Led Zeppelin thing is bogus, but if Spirit wins, it's going to open up the floodgates.

Chuck Berry may go after the Boys again for the intro to Fun Fun Fun.

I hope Spirit takes all the Zep money, and they put Page and Plant into those cartoon barrels held up by suspenders...

next, who can we get to sue U2?

I think we should ALL listen to Mr What's-His-Name, he has a lot of feelings he needs to let out.  (Just to remind us what good music actually is.)

That was actually my very first and very last time hearing that song.

A little bit of Crowded House.

Back from a fun (but a little too short, as usual) weekend getaway.

I'll need a few days to submit my ballot, but here's more music to concentrate by:

(note the stunning footwork by Jake and Elwood Blues in the first offering):

Spirit/LZ bogus?  How so kds?

They toured together way back in the day and suddenly Jimmy opens up a brand new song with an ALMOST note for note 'lift' from Spirit's body of work for StH?

THAT's what was "bogus".  LZ have been sued close to 2 dozen times for taking credit for other people's work.  They've LOST most of them or at least 'settled' on the courtroom stairs.  Drops in the bucket.

Not sure how Plant got dragged into this issue in this thread.  I don't think that HE had much to do with 'it'.

Larry, tough little battle this week.  Have you been conferencing with Deb, as she usually comes up with the Bat-tles of note lately?  I can't offer any feelings this week as I'm merely putting one foot in front day-by-day.  I do LOVE your choices and selections this week as well.  I'll get round to voting by Friday (I hope).

I'm not following the Zep vs. Spirit battle here, but that's for there.

I'll also avoid reading comments here as this battle is a bit personal for me.

Well done and keep the "feelings" happening!

Lee,

I've heard the Spirit song, and of course, have listened to Stairway to Heaven many times.

Similarities?  Maybe.  Enough to warrant a lawsuit?  Nope.

Like I said, if Spirit wins, the flood gates will open.

There are many cases where a riff from one song is similar to another.

It'll lead to land of confusion

"Feelings", bonnie and Al? Well, here's more:

That unmentionable song you listed, bonnie, was definitely a "worst" on a mix tape that a good friend of mine put together many years ago featuring the "worst songs of the 70s". One of the sappiest songs I've ever heard, right up there with "Seasons in the Sun" by Terry Jacks and "You Light Up My Life" by Debby Boone, both also from the 70s and both also on that mix tape.

Thanks to everyone for the additional videos and comments.

Lisa -- As an old-time SNL fan and a movie fanatic, maybe it's odd but I've never watched the Blues Brothers movie. I guess I should think about doing that one day.

Al -- I'm glad you like the songs this week and hope you come back to vote. I'm assuming it's the Spirit/Zeppelin battle that's a bit personal for you, not this week's topic. If it's the latter, I apologize for any discomfort it's causing.

"Our Sweet Love" is another song that was in the running this week, mainly because it doesn't seem to have been used in the Battle yet.

And a more recent one: Wilco, "Outta Mind (Outta Sight)", Being There, 1998

True Love Ways (P&G) went #5 in Cleveland.

Here's Sir Cliff covering it:

Here's Peter & Gordon covering Del Shannon::

And here's Del:

t - I love "I Go To Pieces" and almost used it in the battle once. Peter & Gordon's studio version from 1965 (not a hit in the UK):

Which brings up the question of metaphor. The mind might not be physical yet it can go to pieces or get brought down or all shook up.

The subconscious does funny things.  Last night I had a long, convoluted and mostly forgotten dream.  All I remember was the wonderful bit at the end when I was picking a puppy out of a litter and one was a little tiger cub.

This one is for the tiger cub.  You were cute.

Voting after singing/humming my Gold all day.

Gold - is a classic - Buddy Holly - True Love Ways - a classic love song.  Imagining that it was written and sung to Maria Elena.  MMJ cover of it:

Silver - You Still Believe In Me - an important part of Pet Sounds and always an overlooked song, I believe.
Cali Saga Beach Boys offspring is all over this:

Bronze - tough to put the Temps here but considering what is above.  Just My Imagination is a monster song as well.

Tin - dislike putting Ronnie and the Ronettes here but I have to.

Larry, I enjoy and respect EVERY one of the acts this week but had to vote it through. VERY challenging battle this week!!!!! Well done.
