Thank you, Cindy, for your votes. Larry for the girl songs. John B for the Frankie talk. I think that we mainly think of him for the falsetto but yes, the original voice is best.

And so … Frankie 2018 (The closing number)

Bananarama 2017

Bangles - performance not working so much

The making of YSGTM  Listen to it grow.  Brian begins the lick on piano.

...about Frankie's falsetto, and I hesitate to bring it up, since this example is so (purposely) terrible, but what was the story of the Dylan cover "Don't Think Twice, It's Alright"?   Was he making fun of Dylan, having to record another falsetto dominated song he didn't want to do, or both?  thanks for those live clips, Al!  and I loved the ...masculine athletic propulsive roller coaster rehearsals for 'You're So Good To Me'.  Who said it wasn't a great song, listen to the parts without words.   Brian was singing about true love.

There seem to be a lot more girl songs than boy songs.

The Doors -- "You're Lost Little Girl" (about young Mia Farrow?)
youtube.com/watch?v=ptA39Awo0FE

Nirvana -- "About A Girl" (after listening to Mr. Morrison, Mr. Cobain sounds almost cheerful)
youtube.com/watch?v=Y0Dwk1vi5Lw

Animal Collective -- "My Girls" (a distinctive video; the silence afterward is nice)
youtube.com/watch?v=zol2MJf6XNE

Marshall Crenshaw -- "Girls..."
youtube.com/watch?v=X6aFypiVu6U

Elvis Costello -- "This Year's Girl" (hard to remember the title since the album was This Year's Model, and still is)

Thanks, D.A.N. - and the challenge still awaits me to vote - [rolleyes] What will I do?  Kind of undecided but picture is coming clearer.

Yeah, Al, that's a good one! (But don't encourage me)

Also:

Elvis Costello -- "Big Boys" (turn it up)
youtube.com/watch?v=MrNVmsz0x6E

Lesley Gore -- "Boys"
youtube.com/watch?v=vBxLgqog6-g

"That's the Way Boys Are"
youtube.com/watch?v=cYt3ptpAg60

"Wonder Boy" (from the stylish campus of U.C.L.A., where else?)

Skipping "I Wish I Were A Boy" and "That's A Boy". [smile]

Might as well:

Lana Del Rey -- "Music To Watch Boys To"
youtube.com/watch?v=5kYsxoWfjCg

As in Bob Crewe's 1966 hit "Music To Watch Girls By", also a hit for Andy Williams, but not for:

Leonard Nimoy -- "Music To Watch Space Girls By" (featuring Barbarella and Space Raquel, however)

Larry, trying to keep up before Bonnie comes in from Kiwi world with something we've never heard of...

Neil Sedaka wrote it ^^^^^

Boys do grow up to be men - even if they are nowhere.

Two takes on full disclosure:

The Shins -- "Girl Inform Me"
youtube.com/watch?v=DbE3QBjy4EM

Gumball -- "Girl Don't Tell Me" (is this their most covered song?)
youtube.com/watch?v=FmRyiDp0tZo

Two takes on a different kind of telling:

The Crystals -- "Girls Can Tell" (fast)
youtube.com/watch?v=qbrAFyR9L2k

The Dixie Cups -- "Girls Can Tell" (slow, and not the best name for a group)
youtube.com/watch?v=5K5K_LWGmPY

It's all so confusing. Except in Washington. What's happening there is clear: there's not enough telling.

Season 10 week 31...The Boys Versus The Girls

           1)Manic Monday...light breezy 80's tune

2)Lets Hang On....Not my fav Four Seasons track but still enjoyable

           3)I heard a Rumour....decent 80's tune

4)Your so good to me....always found this one annoying..one of my least fav B'boys songs

                                                             vote is in !!

Hi Al.

I know you're a fan of some of the Bangles stuff too, especially before they watered them down and started the Suzanna Hoffs marketing train.

Here's one I had in the Battle a few years ago.

And we both like James.

My votes.

GOLD - The Bangles. And I have a soft spot for this song. All of my Mondays start in a similar fashion.

SILVER - Frankie Valley & The Four Seasons. I was expecting TBB to take this position, but this song is much better than You're So Good To Me, and I loved rediscovering it. Go the Jersey boys!

BRONZE - TBB. Seems a shame, such a jaunty little song, and it does lend itself to covers, as Larry mentioned. Not enough to it to really fare well in this lineup, but doesn't Brian sound great?

TIN - Bananarama. Hard to believe they did so well. Shows that promotion can be the 'key' to success? I sat squarely in the target audience for Bananarama and never peeled the skin back to find out more.

I always think Walter Becker and Donald Fagen were a tight unit.

Thanks, Al.

We've done Girls; The Girls vs. The Boys; The Boys vs. the Girls; Women Singers; Guys, Real or Not; and Ladies and Gentlemen. And various Beach Boys, of courseApparently no Male, Female or Men. Somebody should get to work.

More random Girls:

The Animals -- "Help Me Girl"
youtube.com/watch?v=oIHaT5uH-sY

XTC  -- "All You Pretty Girls"
youtube.com/watch?v=H-QmWy22mM8

The Roches -- "Older Girls"

Randy Newman -- "Same Girl"

PS: Don't forget the Cars.

Another "In memory of Ric Ocasek" moment:

Boy oh boy...here goes:

GOLD -- Bananarama, I Heard A Rumour -- Not that I was a big fan of 'em generally...even if handing 'em the Gold here makes me a rare breed. All I'll say is at least it's a nice upbeat romp compared to that dreary "Cruel Summer" that never really gets anywhere.

SILVER -- Frankie & the 4 Seasons, Let's Hang On -- Another sunny, upbeat tune.

BRONZE -- Bangles, Manic Monday -- It was fun in its day (so obviously penned by His Purpleness, the Pride of Mini-Apple, Minnesota).

TIN -- Beach Boys, You're So Good To Me -- Again, I'm a rare breed that doesn't understand the appeal for this. The melody is a little too basic and simplistic coming from The Genius, plus the vocal is a smidge yelpy for my liking. To each his own...

Some early bug music that hasn't come up yet, covering both genders:

I love that seamless vocal edit around 1:27-1:28 here:

Thanks for the Battle of the Sexes week, Al!

Lisa, thanks for "This Boy". The day they challenged the Beach Boys in vocal harmonies. Underrated, should appear at level of "Yesterday" and "Let It Be" in people's reception of their songs.

My votes will follow in the evening. As a warning what they might be, I'm giving you something from the "Five Minutes Of Heaven" movie I watched last night. 2 minutes of it in the middle of dumb darkness.

AND they had a Girls Girls Girls song, too:
