I think I have tinsel-itis.

GOLD - Carnie and Wendy.  But only because they sound pretty.

SILVER - Burl Ives.  Tolerable. Any other time of the year, intolerable.

BRONZE - My ears may never be the same.  Luckily, I "get" it.  Why do Southern Hemisphere Santa's have to dress as though they're about to shovel snow anyway?

TIN - Josh.  Looks like it's tripe for Christmas for the Groban family.

I've been enjoying the videos that you've all posted.  So far, I have Kds, Lee, Al, Pete, tBedford and Bonnie.  Thanks for getting your votes in early!

While I'm here, I'll go ahead and cast my votes while it's slow.

GOLD:  Hey Santa/Carnie and Wendy Wilson.  Always a joy to hear this one during the Christmas season.

SILVER:  Believe/Josh Groban.  I love the wonder of children at Christmastime, waiting for Santa.  It's so magical.

BRONZE:  Mele Kalikimaka/Jimmy Buffett.  This one seems to have become popular in these parts over the last few years.  It's very different over all the other Christmas songs and y'all must know how much I love the tropical sound.

TIN/PEWTER:  Holly Jolly Christmas/Burl Ives.  I love this one and have since my childhood.

I love them all and I had a hard time placing them!
My final answer.

Cindy

No better time than the (Christmas) present to present my ballot:

GOLD -- Burl Ives, A Holly Jolly Christmas -- A stone cold classic from childhood onward. 'Nuff said?

SILVER -- Carnie & Wendy, Hey Santa -- Cheery enough.

BRONZE -- Josh Groban, Believe -- I was a late bloomer and only saw "The Polar Express" a couple of years ago. Beautifully animated, great holiday flick. Josh is a little more theatrical than most of my Xmas tunes, but it's still better (to me, anyway) than...

TIN -- Jimmy Buffet, Mele Kalikimaka -- Meh....nice song but I can think of several versions that (Santa) suit me better.

My response, bonnie, as re-enacted by Woody:

Wishing a Very Merry (and safe) Christmas to all! Happy Holidays!

Good news, boys and girls! Santa passed his medical and is fit to fly! Gather 'round the monitor/electronic device and watch:

The ultimate Christmas movie. No that's NOT Jamie Farr as Stobo, it's Al Nesor (who played "Evil Eye Fleagle" in the Li'l Abner musical). That IS Pia Zadora as Girmar, the little Martian girl.

Merry Xmas to all my fellow Battlers.

It's well and truly Boxing Day here.

If you'd like to see how Santa got his job, this video is very informative...

It's been a busy holiday week around the Tobben household, so finally winding down after all the festivities and cleanup. Here's wishing everyone here a very merry (and belated, for many of you) Christmas, Boxing Day, Hanukkah, Festivus, or whatever you may celebrate.

Here are my votes:

Gold -- "Mele Kalikimaka", Jimmy Buffett. Since first hearing this Hawaiian Christmas song some years ago, I've always liked it, and I'm also a fan of Jimmy Buffett.

Silver -- "Holly Jolly Christmas", Burl Ives. I've heard this song so many times over so many years, it's a Christmas staple around here.

Bronze -- "Hey Santa", Wilson Phillips. A nice enough song but falls below my top two picks this week.

Tin -- "Believe", Josh Groban. Never been a fan of his, so this one falls to the bottom of Santa's list this week.

Looking forward to the Season 7 playoffs, to see which songs made it to the toppermost of the BOTBs poppermost this year.

And with today's unfortunate news of George Michael's untimely passing, his memorable Christmas song is in tribute to him:

While I'm ahead of the year-end curve, here's wishing everyone here a Happy New Year and a prosperous 2017!

Cindy,

Apologies for voting so late…I’ve been chief cook and bottle washer for the extended family’s holiday gathering this weekend (Roast Beef for 20 tonight!).  And being rather short of energy, I’m going straight to the votes.

Gold – Hey Santa by Carnie and Wendy Wilson

Silver – Mele Kalikimaka by Jimmy Buffett

Bronze – Holly Jolly Christmas by Burl Ives

Tin – Believe by Josh Groban

Thanks, Cindy

This is a hard choice.

Gold - Hey Santa! (Carnie & Wendy Wilson - 1993)
Hadn’t heard it before. Passable. Nice to hear Carl’s cameo.

Silver - Holly Jolly Christmas (Burl Ives - 1965)
Not Big Daddy’s first visit to the Battle (and last time I gave him my Gold). Pleasing backing but I wanted to like it more than I did.

Bronze - Believe (Josh Groban - 2004)
Wish I could sing like this dude. If I could, I hope I would sing better songs than this. His lower register sounds like he’s trying to sound like Michael Crawford, which is never a good thing. All week I had no idea where to place this.

Participant - Mele Kalikimaka (Jimmy Buffett - 1996)
A bit of a Buffett fan. I have a great mate who is a huge parrothead. He went to see Jimmy Buffett a few years back at the Tivoli in Brisbane. Early in the show, as soon as Jimmy started up a song, my friend stood up on his chair and started yahooing. Jimmy stopped playing and announced to the audience, “Since I’ve been in Australia, I’ve learnt a new word – ‘dickhead’. Now, is that a dickhead?” The audience roared with approval. Jimmy laughed, “Sit down, ya dickhead”. My friend remains ever proud that his idol spoke to him!

Cindy, this has the end of the song….
