Gold - One for the Boys (Brian Wilson - 1988)
I have fond memories of this (and have even caught myself whistling the tune sometimes). I bought the album when it came out and, whilst this wasn’t a major highlight for me, it did get radio airplay.

Silver - This Will Be Our Year (stereo) (The Zombies - 1968/1997)
There are some good songs on the ill-fated Odessey and Oracle, most of which I have in my collection, including this one. And it’s this version that I have.

Bronze - Splish Splash (Bobby Darin - 1958)
I love a few Bobby Darin songs, including ‘Treat My Baby Good’, ‘You Must Have Been a Beautiful Baby’ and ‘Not for Me’. This one is overrated.

Participant - If I Could Back Time (Cher - 1989)
I have a friend that people keep saying looks like Cher. And he’s getting really sick of it.

Okay, my new year vote, and not a day too late!

GOLD - The Zombies.  Sweet and lovely and also new to me.  Loved it.  Thanks, Deb.

SILVER - Brian.  This is lovely, but it's not enough of a song for me to rate it any higher.  It seems a very fast 1.48, which must mean total enjoyment.

BRONZE - Bobby Darin.  I haven't heard this for so long, and it immediately made me think of my uncle and how he loved this kind of music.  I hope Bobby's changed the bathwater since the sixties.

TIN - Cher.  Too much money spent on hiring that giant naval (or in this instance is it a navel) ship, and nothing spent on costuming!  Looks like some quick thinking, a couple of borrowed belts and the jacket Cher arrived in, saved the day.  It's a bit ploddy and repetitive, and I've never really been a fan of Cher.

Nina Simone captures the right sentiment.  "Feeling Good" (1965)

It's the first day of 2017 in New Zealand, and summer holidays are in full swing.  Elemeno P "Every Day's a Saturday" (2004), and "Fast Times In Tahoe" (2003).

And great news about Ray Davies!

Good Morning? [cool]

Thanks to Darren for identifying the mystery women on Linda Ronstadt’s video.  There is a strong resemblance between Linda and her model.  The eyes made me think of Zooey.

And I certainly had a mind slip.  Of course I knew the Zombies were still out touring…with Darian at one point, now that I recall, and even played in the area here last spring!

paul, I vote Sydney’s New Year’s fireworks the most spectacular.  I’m sure they were even more so seen live.  That bridge photo is amazing!

Thanks for voting, David and graciegirl

Here are my votes this week.  Do I see a Tin playoff entry shaping up with Cher?

Gold – Brian Wilson – “One for the Boys”

Silver – Bobby Darin – “Splish Splash”

Bronze – Zombies – “This Will Be Our Year”

….Tin – Cher – “If I Could Turn Back Time”

While I wait for any further votes, here are several notable versions of Auld Lang Syne from YouTube that I found particularly interesting:

Auld Lang Syne - Beach Boys cover – Josh Turner.  (Look to Lisa’s post for the real deal. Look for “Mother Earth and Father Time”, too).

Schwinn Bell Choir Plays Auld Lang Syne

Remembering those we lost in 2016 to Auld Lang Syne (With Lyrics). We lost too many, some not even  on the video:
[Father-Mulcahy-m-a-s-h-14057665-320-240]

And last but certainly far from least

Brian Wilson - Auld Lang Syne

And on the first of the year - the best interpreter of Auld Lang Syne, (imho), the GREAT Eddi Reader.  Happy everything to everyone here at the mighty BlueBoard.

Thanks for getting a vote in D.A.N and thanks Al, for closing out the the New Year’s with Eddi Reader’s “Auld Lang Syne”.  It's a striking version.

The scores this week are no surprise.  The voting trend was set early on.  Cher got two Gold votes but most went to Brian for “One for the Boys”.  That is a favorite of mine, so yay.  The Zombies were next in line with Bobby Darin and Cher following on their own times.

I counted 15 voters, 150 points.

Gold – Brian Wilson – “One for the Boys” – 54 points.

         10 Gold,      4 Silver,      1 Bronze.

Silver – Zombies – “This Will Be Our Year” – 38 points.

         2 Gold,      8 Silver,      1 Bronze,      4 Tin.

Bronze – Bobby Darin – “Splish Splash” – 32 points.

         3 Silver,      11 Bronze,      1 Tin.

Tin – Cher – “If I Could Turn Back Time” – 26 points.

         3 Gold,      2 Bronze,      10 Tin.

Well done, Deb.

The scores are in the book!

That ‘book’ is a post called ‘Season VII’ and it currently resides on page 3 of this BOTB forum.

All results from this season can be found there.

For the fifth time ever, but third time this year, Deb’s week produced a song that has now finished both first and last in separate weeks.

The others have been ‘I Got You Babe’ (Sonny & Cher), ‘Leader of the Pack’ (The Shangri-Las), ‘September’ (Earth, Wind & Fire) and ‘Summer of Love’ (The Beach Boys).

Al Forsyth used ‘One for the Boys’ in an all Beach Boys/Brian Wilson week in Week 22 of Season V.

It did make the Tin Play-Off that season and finished in 2nd place, well behind ‘Back in the USSR’ (The Beatles).

‘This Will Be Our Year’ is the third Zombies track used.

Their history:

Time of the Season (a Silver in Week 34 of Season II, 7th in Preliminary Final - Tom Tobben),
Gotta Get a Hold of Myself (a Bronze in Week 36 of Season V - t Bedford),
This Will Be Our Year (a Silver in Week 45 of Season VII - Deb#1)

38 points is the lowest for a Silver winner since ‘River Song’ (demo) (Dennis Wilson), in Week 43 of Season III (paul g adsett), scored 37.5 points.

Deb, thank you for closing your week on time and balancing (as always). It’s appreciated.

Okay….here come the play-offs!
