Here we go... GOLD - Steely Dan. (who here has one?) I'm a great Steely Dan fan. The band, that is. I know that a lot of people just do not like them. I say they're just plain jealous. SILVER - The Buggles. Overplayed. Heard it several times this week on the r.a.d.i.o, and that was on two different stations. But the guy has a point. Since when did it become about Beyonce's shorts? BRONZE - TBB. Because if anything annoys me, it's Radio Ga Ga. TIN - Queen. I'd love to love these guys more because I know they have a huge array of great hits, but it's not for me. Thanks, Cindy, you generated a lot of different opinions, which is exactly what we need.

Well done, Cindy. They’re in the book. One of those very rare weeks where the Tin song received the most Golds and the most Tins. That’s what I call a polariser. It was the first appearance for The Buggles. I’m tipping it will also be their last. One mega-hit. One appearance for one Gold. 'Surfin’' is the sixth song from Surfin' Safari to be selected. None of its songs have made play-offs. Its record: Surfin' Safari (a Gold in Week 28 of Season III - D.A.N), Chug-A-Lug (a Bronze in Week 11 of Season VII - Tom Tobben), 409 (a Gold in Week 34 of Season III - Deb#1; a Bronze in Week 13 of Season V - Peter Simpson), Surfin’ (a Silver in Week 28 of Season IX - Cindy Hood), Heads You Win-Tails I Lose (a Tin in Week 15 of Season IX - Larry Franz), Summertime Blues (a Silver in Week 13 of Season VI - paul g adsett)
As noted at the end of Larry’s Week 15, of the studio albums comprising of new or almost new material – and not counting oddities/rare versions – only four Beach Boys albums have not spawned any play-off contestants as yet. They are Surfin’ Safari (1962), Little Deuce Coupe (1963) (although the single version of ‘Be True to Your School’ has twice made play-offs), The Beach Boys (1985) and Summer in Paradise (1992). This week won’t change that. ‘Radio Ga Ga’ is the eighth Battle song for that polarising band called Queen. Their record:
Bohemian Rhapsody (a Silver in Week 8 of Season II - Cynthia D. Hood), Love of My Life (a Tin in Week 31 of Season II - Al Forsyth), Under Pressure (with David Bowie) (a Silver in Week 27 of Season V - Deb#1), We Are the Champions (a Silver in Week 38 of Season V - Roy Rogers), Bicycle Race (a Bronze in Week 45 of Season V - Darren J. Ray), Somebody to Love (a Silver in Week 34 of Season VIII, 4th in Silver Play-Off - GGH), Friends Will Be Friends (a Bronze in Week 5 of Season IX - GGH), Radio Ga Ga (a Bronze in Week 28 of Season IX - Cindy Hood) It was the fourth entry and first Tin for that other polarising band Steely Dan. Their record: Reelin’ In the Years (a Silver in Week 19 of Season V - Lisa G/TS), My Old School (a Silver in Week 26 of Season V, 6th in Silver Play-Off - Tom Tobben), Black Cow (a Silver in Week 35 of Season VIII - Cindy Hood), FM (No Static at All) (a Tin in Week 28 of Season IX - Cindy Hood) With the equal sixth highest points for a Tin (33) and second highest percentage (22.00), and 17 weeks to go, ‘FM’ may have booked a spot in this year’s Tin Play-Off. Please continue to support the hosts who put a lot of work into providing our weekly entertainment.
