I've been begging for two things....

1. That Brian play at least half of his shows playing his solo stuff. Melt Away I've heard a few times on tour in the early days and I went out of my mind. It's my favorite song ever. Some songs like This Song Wants to Sleep with You and rediscovering that I hadn't heard in years. I'm broke, Desert Drive. Love these obscure songs.

2. I am a HUGE fan of the Wilson/Paley recordings. I think Andy brought out the best in Brian and Brian seemed to really love working with Andy. So what's the problem? Wouldn't it be a trip to have Hale, Don Was, Carol and all the key players cut a rock n roll together??? Come on! I bet it'd rock!

You tease with that subject title![tongue]

I understand your passion for these - and I share it - yet I'm pretty sure we won't see either.  Brian's seems quite comfortable with his Beach Boys set lists.  Also think the Paley session tracks will just keep getting released one or three at a time.  Between "Made in California," "Imagination," "Gettin' in Over my Head," and his new Anthology (and in other places), many have been released as recorded in the '90s, or re-recorded and released.  Sadly, it doesn't seem likely for them to revisit these as a package.

I hope I'm wrong though.

(I'm pretty sure Hal Blaine has retired, btw - he's about 90, I believe.)

Hwy Bugs,

I think Hal and the guys played on the last Glen Campbell song, I'm Not Gonna Miss You. But you're probably right. It's probably a little too late for that.

What Dumb Angel said!

I am possibly more pie in the sky optimistic about this than Bugs, but I foresee some kind of small box set, of at least 2 CD's, maybe/hopefully released as a future project by Rhino,  that would include all the great Brian & Andy songs, plus the best unreleased stuff from 'Sweet Insanity' such as 'The Spirit of Rock n Roll', and since we're asking for the sky and moon and stars, why not, the best unreleased bedroom tapes songs too.  So, make that a 3 CD set!   get it done, Rhino, chop chop!    Over on that other topic/thread about 'girls' songs, I instantly thought of "My Marianne."   Classic Brian Wilson song!

Yo, Johnny B!

I'm dying to hear some Wilson/Paley released material from the 90's. I've heard all the boots years ago and began listening to em again lately. Songs like Metal Beach and I freggin love the original track to Desert Drive. That orig mix rocked!

But a NEW album would be legend! Come on, they captured the 60's vibe on their songs. that slap-delay bass! Killer! That's what I've been longing for in a Brian Wilson record. Dunno why they haven't done it yet. Ok, gotta get back to work!

Don't know about the Wilson/Paley material.   But I too agree that Brian's setlists outside of Love and Mercy and some new solo songs will remain Beach Boys heavy for however much longer he continues to perform live.   I'd be ok with Brian shows that are 50/50 between Beach Boys and solo Brian.  But I doubt that's happening.

Brian just spent these past 18 [or so] months performing his masterpiece Pet Sounds almost 200 times...plus a rotating roster of some of his all time greatest songs...plus some bonus surprises.  I don't think he'll tour again.

I can't imagine why he would.  I think he deserves to go out on a high note.  This should be 'it'.

I agree Lee. But...Nashville in May. Maybe he will stop then? He has accomplished many amazing feats and this past year even more so. I will be appreciative of any future bits of genius he throws our way via recorded material.

There will be some sort of tour next spring/summer besides the three Nashville dates. I have a very, close friend who books a venue in a major mid-west city who told me yesterday he was booking Brian in May. And it was not a Pet Sounds show. So the Man is hitting the road again.

Maybe this is how he wants to live out his golden years. I’ll take it.

I think Brian's next album should be titled The Ever-Evolving Brian Wilson.
