Hi all,

It is December.  That means Christmas is this month.  Time to bring out Brian's Christmas CD.  I am looking forward to listening to it during my pedicure tomorrow.  This marvelous CD is a Christmas gift and Hallmark card from Brian.  Each song is magnificent!!!  This unique Christmas CD brings the fans such joy each year.  His heartfelt and flawless singing abounds on this CD.  What I Really Want For Christmas is an excellent Christmas gift for Brian fans all over.  Those who don't have this CD yet should buy it.

I'll admit, I'm much more partial to the Beach Boys 1964 Christmas Album.

I got Brian's Christmas Album last year, and found it to be very enjoyable.  I particularly liked his arrangement of God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen, and the longer version of The Man With All the Toys.

Good Yuletide Fun.

I think I like 'On Christmas Day' as much as I do any one song on the BB's one.  Also, 'Christmassy' the Jimmy Webb co-written one !    So, to me it's not such a big win for the Beach Boys.  In fact, if we're subtracting by addition, I would rather play all the way through Brian's album vs. all the way through the 'ultimate'/long/ MIU-borrowing one.

I don't really consider Ultimate Christmas to be a true album.  It's basically the '64 Xmas Album with a bunch of bonus tracks of varying quality.  While some are decent, I mainly got that CD just as a completist.

For the next 25 days, I'll likely stick to the 1964 album with the green cover of the Boys trimming the tree.

I'll agree 100% that I'll listen to BW's Xmas album before listening to Ultimate Xmas from start to finish album.

But while BW's album is a fun album, I think the BB Xmas Album is a Christmas essential.

Thanks for bringing up Brian’s Christmas CD.  I played it today for the first time this season, too.  It was a nice boost.  I really like “What I Really Want for Christmas”.  Maybe this is a good time to re-post this video of Brian working out “On Christmas Day” with his band.

What a vocal on this one:

Thanks, Deb1, that's a great video, the musical genius wearing tennis shoes, as it were...

kds, besides 'Little Saint Nick', the 64 Christmas album song that is most likely to stop me in my tracks in a department store to listen, still, is 'We Three Kings.'

I wonder how many people are like me, though, in that I bought all the 'Boys albums in that format--an album, so other than best of and odds collections, I did not buy one of their CD's until 'That's Why God Made the Radio.'   The problem is that my record-player is in the garage next to the vinyl albums that number too many to be stored anywhere else.  So, yes, I can generally play the classic 64 Christmas album while cleaning up the garage, or doing sit-ups, or riding the elliptical bike--I can even on rare Christmases the family comes to my house, bring in the record player and play in the house (along with Smokey and the Jackson V and so forth); but only CD's are played generally at my Texas familys' houses (where we will go this year)--and that means, bringing along the 'ultimate' one that is great....then goes on too long with alternating mediocrity.  Same for the car---record albums don't play in cars.

John,

I'm a big fan of their version of We Three Kings as well.  That, and Blue Christmas, are probably my favorite covers on the 64 Xmas Album.

I love them both, but I definitely find myself listening to Brian's Christmas CD a lot more.

Of course, what could be better that having Brian's band do spot on backing vocals to a certain xmas song:

Hi all,

Today I took what I Really Want For Christmas with me to my pedicure.  Turns out the young woman's parents and grandparents are HUGE fans.  I told her where in Broome County, NY they could buy the CD.  Then I told her about this forum.  It felt so fabulous to share a fantastic Christmas CD.  Brian, chocolates and a glass of chardonnay!!!  What a fun way to spend some of the afternoon.

Each song was unique!!!  Brain gives it and us his all as usual!!!  I hope that all of you are able to listen to the CD this month.

Happy listening!!!

So, so good.  Brian's band is so amazing - then you add Al and Matt (and Blondie when we can enjoy him)...How lucky are we?!  Happy Holidays indeed...

Indeed, Mary, what a great combination.  It sounds like it was a great time.
And thanks so much for the video of Little Saint Nick, swervy.  I enjoyed it a lot.  I always get a kick out of the fact that Little Saint Nick is a car.

We listened to the Brian Xmas CD while driving to and from different Xmas events this weekend.

It's a very fun Xmas album.

I was telling my wife that I remember when it was released, it wasn't very well reviewed (although I think Xmas music in general doesn't typically get good reviews).

Thanks MaryNYS for posting about this (has me listening to the album right now), and thanks Deb#1 for posting that video of the 'On Christmas Day' session. Such a fantastic Christmas song and it's awesome to see Brian work through those harmonies.
