I was under the impression that the 'Deluxe' version had 18 tracks.
If so, what is the difference between the £7.99 and £11.99 CD's listed here?

I think the 'Deluxe' version has 16 tracks.
According to Wikipedia there is an 18 track Target-exclusive-version with track 17 beeing a 1975 demo of "In the back of my mind" and track 18 listed as "Love and Mercy".

I preordered the 18 track version from the swedish 'wowhd' as it was cheaper and could be interesting!

Many thanks.
Maybe the packaging might not be as good as the Deluxe version but I'm with you in going for the extra tracks!
Thanks again.

I thought the 18 track thing was only going to be available in the UK.  Now I find out that it will be an exclusive at Target in the U.S.   A 1975 demo of Brian doing "In the Back of My Mind" could either be so so or really good depending on the quality.  As for Love and Mercy who knows if it is just the original version from Brian's solo album or a live version.

The version of "Love and Mercy" on the Target edition is the one released with "Walking Down the Path of Life" that came out in 2005 (or around 2005).

I've read that the 1975 version of "In the Back of My Mind" is amazing. Kind of like the demo for "California Feelin'" from the "Made in California" box set. Brian's voice alternates between his beautiful voice and the gruff voice, it isn't as rough as on "15 Big Ones," etc.

Apparently, ITBOMM is just absolutely amazing. [smile] I am so jazzed to hear it. [smile]

ITBOMM is the song that got away.  Should have been a classic single (or flip), but it never was the right vocal. Can't fault Brian or Dennis for trying though.  So instead, it became the precursor to Pet Sounds.  MORE than glad that it's coming out tomorrow and PLEASE Brian, if you ever make an old coupled with the new album in the future (with guest vocalists again?????) get this song right and include it!  It's an absolute beauty.

Target, here I come on Monday, Monday!

Being that I already have the normal Deluxe version of the album hopefully Brian's demo of "In the Back of My Mind" ends up on YouTube at some point.  Sounds like it is a track that could've been considered for one of the Beach Boys box sets.

At one point Best Buy seemed to be the store that had additional tracks with a lot of albums.  Now it seems like Target is the one.  Perhaps Capitol has a deal with them to deliver a bit of bonus content that they can advertise as exclusive.  But I would think Brian or at least those who represent him would have some say in what bonus material is released.

This was posted in another fan forum. I didn't upload it or host it or anything, I can't take the credit (or the blame, ha) for it. I'm just sharing it since the YouTube / online angle was already brought up.

Echo that!
I just can't get the backing parts out of my head when hearing that!

This Brian version touches you right where it needs to.

Brian's "In the Back of My Mind" demo is interesting.  I wonder if he at least briefly had plans on rerecording it.  I noticed some lyric additions to go along with the lyrics we already know.  I still like The Beach Boys Today version more but the demo is still pretty powerful.  You can tell that the demo was recorded when Brian really wasn't using his trademark falsetto anymore but he didn't have his gruff voice of the late 70s yet either.

As for the original version perhaps Brian or Carl might've done a better vocal.  But I personally think Dennis did a good job on it.  And the music track is really powerful.  It's one of the songs that foreshadowed what Brian would do with Pet Sounds.

For the most part I don't like the idea of Beach Boy remakes.  But if Brian feels that he found the right vocalist I wouldn't mind hearing a new version of "In the Back of My Mind" even if it was added as a bonus track for a future album.  Or how's about put a little spin on it and have a female sing lead so it's somewhat different.
