Hey John,
I had found this yesterday...it looked like an interesting book. Have you heard or read about it? Here is the link:

No.  I've got another Beach Boys discography.  Wonder if the colored disc Kenny & Cadet's is really from 1962--is my only question.  If so, it's probably very valuable to collectors.  I have all those songs since the Morgans have released several cheapo album compilations through the years.  "Luau" sounds just like later Beach Boys Mike.  Brian's falsetto got better after 'Barbie'.

I was reading on the authors website yesterday and he said that those songs on the Barbie 45 were written by Mrs. Morgan and sung by Brian in 1962. I think that was around the time that Candix was going under and before Capitol. I think it said that Murray was looking for a contract and was actually friends with the Morgan's. The excepts from the book were very interesting. I think I may get it because i love the history so much. It is so interesting how Brian's voice changed over the years. That early falsetto was unbelievable! I can'y even sing THAT high! I want to look for that 45 now. I am on Discogs now and have it on my wantlist.

I found this on Wiki...

1962Apr19SBrian and Usher record four songs (later credited to Kenny & the Cadets) which will lead to a Capitol contract.[4]US

1962Jun RS"Surfin' Safari" / "409" released.[4]

You reminded me of something, Kaycee.  That is, I DO have the Brothers Records singles: by Brian Wilson (solo name) of 'Carolyn, No' backed with 'Summer Means New Love' and by Brian Wilson & Mike Love of 'Gettin' Hungry' backed with 'Devoted to You'.   I do NOT have the 45 of  'Pamela Jean' b/w 'After the Game' by the Survivors I think it was.

The Surfer Girl album?   I like them all, well, the instrumentals are weakest, but besides them.  Faves?  'In My Room,' 'Surfer Girl,' 'Your Summer Dream,' and 'The Surfer Moon'.

Awesome! I recall that "Gettin Hungry" one that I saw once for sale. I almost got it. I just got this one which is obscure and unofficial, but I thought was interesting. It is coming from Quebec...

Are you two amenable to returning this to the topic, or taking this to PM? (Keep thinking there's something else about SI... but keep seeing these).

-Thanks

yes, American.  Were there foreign releases?  and for those (few?) people who don't know, 'Pamela Jean' was Beach Boys in cognito singing different lyrics over the 'Car Crazy Cutie' backing track.

okay, 'Sweet Insanity'. If you want to explore this, you first need to make some kind of peace with the large Landy shadow over it.  Some people can, some people can't.  Once you do that, and you start listening to it on its own merits, there's some greatness to it.  Why wouldn't there be?  It's Brian.  I think it would have come out by now except the masters were lost or stolen.  They could redo it all, but were on to the next one instead, which was "Imagination" which is more cohesive and better overall.  Depending upon which version you get of 'SI' and how many songs in your bootleg, it probably ranks higher than 'Gettin' in Over My Head'.  Right, bugs?

Uh oh, the Topic Police.

Just messing with you bugs, but it's not uncommon for a long thread to veer off into different directions.

As for the SI album, I've not listened to it myself outside of Smart Girls, which is really only a novelty at best.  I'll have to do that one day.

I think I was a pretty kind cop - it was a friendly warning, then wished them a safe trip.

I view this board a bit differently then, say, Smiley-Smile - which is why I post here.  S-S can be good for some research, but it gets too testy and strange at times for me.  For me (I'm pretty sure there are others that feel that way too).
Back on Page 1 & 2 of this thread, there were some fairly legitimate queries regarding the (expanded) Paley Sessions - and I know this subject interests quite a few Brian Wilson fans (me included).  But after three pages of back & forth dialog between (only) two people that included way-off topic references to (among other things) Beavis & Butthead, it was time to kindly ask them to go PM.  Maybe I'll steer them to S-S next time. [wink]

I tried unsuccessfully to get on Smiley, but could not possibly due to tech. .  I asked for admin. assistance and received none.  That is the major reason that I do not go on SS.  Well, besides Brian being the Beach Boys as Dennis said, and it's also kind of dark so difficult to see with visual limitations.

I believe I also had trouble initially posting over here, but received nice admin. assistance.  That's the difference.

btw: it cannot really be your anniversary every day, can it bugs?

Why Not?!?  [wink]

-It's temporary, John.  For the month of May.  May 2016, celebrating May 1966.  Specifically May 16, 1966 - The (official U.S.) release of "Pet Sounds."

oh.... thanks for explanation.  It occurs to me that sometimes I need an explanation when others do not.

btw, it also occurs to me that a majority of people here, like in real life, are not initially welcoming to new people.  With me, with no award given of any kind, Larry was nice, then Debbie, and I remember those gestures.

We did not have to be two people posting over here, you know.  Others could have added comments at any time--.   so, under these circumstance--I think it's unfair to be threatened to be exiled away to a snobby site who never let me post just because of a momentary change of subject.
