Nice! - If there truly were awards given annually from "thinking people," Love & Mercy would've nearly swept.  The more you know about Brian's life, the more you really appreciate the production in it's entirety.

When someone asked me what the movie Love and Mercy was about I told them this.
"It's about how society is being dumbed down by chemicals and radio microwave frequency (smart phones, wifi etc) and how that is even affecting the movie industry puting out crap movies BUT it was supposed to be about Brian Wilson".

Using 2 different actors to play the same main character?
Flipping back and fourth confusing the audience if they don't know about Brian Wilson to begin with?   Total garbage and it shows how dumbed down our society is becoming.
Brian I hope somebody who has a brain left makes a movie about you that serves you and your genius justice.

HINT: They are both named Brian Wilson. There is a 30+ year age difference, a clear stretch for any actor, especially when the weight difference is taken into account.

HINT: They are both named Brian Wilson. One wears 1960's styles (and interacts with the Beach Boys), one wears 1990's styles (and interacts with Melinda Ledbetter and Dr. Landy). One drives 1960's automobiles, the other, 1990's automobiles.

HINT: This simple robot didn't have a problem following an artistic film that obviously respects its audience. Perhaps you were a little short of cash when you saw it (or bought popcorn instead?), and couldn't afford to pay attention? Are you certain it's just society...or is it merely you?
Maybe you should be avoiding

HINT: Care to stop in and post the basis of your alternate script? The one that can tell Brian's massive story in 2 hours? Can you tell us specifically what details you thought were missing?

'Dumbed down' is surely not a good description of a film that uses two actors to play the lead role and makes its audience think.

I enjoyed it but each to his own.

Well, Sleep 13 wouldn't be on the panel of "thinking people" handing out awards in my dream world.
And a shout out thanks to Buzz for taking the time to post what the thinking people were, uh, thinking. [thumb]

Sorry if you don't like my opinion on that movie but I'm not alone on it.
I've seen many movies about people and their lives. Oh and by the way they do have make up and special effects. they can make an actor older or younger. I bet you're the same people who believe all those psyop fake shootings the mass media rams down your throat every couple weeks too. What bothers me the most is not all the dumbed down people who thought it was good but rather that it was about one of the most interesting brilliant, amazing and talented men of our time.He deserves way better.

Thanks for letting all of us who like L&M know that we're "dumbed down."  I'm a little curious what your credentials are for making such a comment, "microwave frequencies," or a lack thereof?  It annoys me that I eventually respond to trolls.

Care to find and post a negative review from a professional critic? While a robot does not claim to have scanned every review, this one did not see any negative review by any paid critic. Indeed, at least one pointed out that an artist as different as Brian deserved a different film!

As everyone here has, as well. Your point?!?

Unfortunately, the kind of effects you describe, add both time and expense (it's the daily six hours in  either the make-up or fat suit chair). The six hours daily adds expensive weeks to the shooting schedule.

I am not technically people (I am a mechanical man), however with my limited knowledge of humankind, it would seem that you may want to stop reading those conspiracy websites, or perhaps, start taking your meds, again?

Now it sounds like you are upset that there was a film made about Brian Wilson?
Because removing the first choice leaves us with this:
"What bothers me the most is...that it was about one of the most interesting brilliant, amazing and talented men of our time."

He deserves way better.

Again, care to post the basis of your alternate script?

Thanks again, Buzz.  I will also feed this troll (hopefully, it works like a poison pill).....

You profess to know about Brian.  Have you really taken the time to see how he looked in the mid-late 60's?
Now...have you really taken the time to see how he looked in the '80s (after aging twenty years, after gaining 150 lbs through the '70s, then after losing 150 lbs, and plastic surgery urged by Landy)?!?
Sorry, but even IF you spent the time and money to apply Hollywood make-up to Paul Dano, John Cusak was the better choice.

bugs, (and Debbie) I don't think we can automatically assume the T word here, just because Sleep 13 doesn't agree with us. But his lack of alternative ideas (while offering only vague criticism) does speak for itself, I think.

He does seem to be both ill informed (about film making) and illogical (regarding the artistry involved in film making). Perhaps he needed big CGI explosions, and fake Hollywood blood flying around in order to enjoy the film? Possibly there should have been an hour devoted to Brian in bed, eating steaks (but I'm fairly certain that would have messed with the pacing of the film). Maybe he's found an online conspiracy theory involving Mike Love's sonic positivity, proving that he's been the brains behind the Beach Boys all along...

What single actor would he choose? Both Dano & Cusack were unfit to play a single actor Brian. You can make Dano look old readily enough....but how are you gonna make him look skinny enough (at only 5'11" he'd have to drop to about 140 lbs to pull it off)? Cusack is skinny (at 6'2"), but even with a fat suit, makeup can't remove 25 years of age (believably).
