Hello, friends.  I haven't posted here in quite some time, so I thought I would stop by and pass along happy 4th wishes to Brian, to America's Band, and to all of you, stateside or not.

Back in the days following the 9/11 attacks, like a lot of others, I found myself trying to express my feelings in song.  The effort was going pretty badly.  Then, one morning, I awoke hearing The Beach Boys singing in my head.  The melody was from the traditional ballad "Oh, Shenandoah", with new, patriotic lyrics added.  I got up and quickly wrote down what I was hearing.  I then came up with a refrain part that wasn't in the original tune, and set about having demo made.  I can't play the demo publicly, but I would like to share the lyrics with you here, in honor of Independence Day.  Just use your imagination.  I hope you like it.

"America - A Love Song" by D.W. Ward (copyrighted)

America, you land of beauty
Green and golden hills and valleys
Rivers wild and mountains mighty
I know, oh yes, I know
How fortune smiled upon me.

America, you land of promise
Beckoning the willing dreamer
From shining sea to snowy timber
Oh, pioneer, oh, pioneer
You know my heart remembers

Have you felt the wind across the prairie
That holds the eagle in the sky
Giving life to our Old Glory
Bringing hope to you and I

America, I love you dearly
Every pine and every pebble
By grace of God, your son, the rebel
Has a home, this land's my home
And I'll be true forever

Have you felt the wind across the prairie
That holds the eagle in the sky
Giving life to our Old Glory
Bringing hope to you and I

America, I love you dearly
Every pine and every pebble
By grace of God, your son, the rebel
Has a home, this land's my home
And I'll be true forever
This land's my home
And I'll be true forever
