Thanks to Verden for a folksy week.

Here come some songs about what's next. Feel free to add your own favorites.

May 1965 brought this Billboard #24 single from Them (with Van Morrison)
Them - Here Comes the Night:

From the summer of 1967, this UK #12 didn’t chart at all in the USA, but did enjoy a small amount of air play on local Cleveland radio. And I never heard it again (I’d even forgotten the artist) until the internet & YouTube came along.
Small Faces - Here Come the Nice:

From the Wild Honey LP, the original non-disco version in stereo, from December 1967.
Beach Boys - Here Comes the Night:

better quality (thanks Larry):

Those of us living above the Equator have the official start of Summer next week. Here Comes Summer is a 1970 single by Dave Clark Five (originally a #14 single by Jerry Keller from June 1959). The DC5 version charted #44 in the UK, and went #52 in Wilkes-Barre, PA!

T, Here comes my votes:

Gold - Here Comes the Night (love the entire song - always)
Silver - Here Comes Summer (like half to three quarters of this)
Bronze - Beach Boys - Here Comes the Night (like half of this song)
Tin - Here Come the Nice (Marriott - really? - not all too beautiful - don't like the song)

Easy vote this week - thanks.

Gold-Beach Boys. [I only have to block out the disco version from disrupting the sound a still great song]
Silver-Van and Them other Guys.  [the other version by Streetheart is OK]
Bronzed-Small Faces. [there would be other versions of the group]

Just out of the running-Dave and 4 other guys

t, all these are new to me except the BB's track.

Let's see... I'll go with the following:

GOLD:  The Beach Boys for Here Comes the Night.  Good song, but a teensy bit more fond of the disco version without the extended part.  That was a little much.

SILVER:  Dave Clark Five for Here Comes Summer. Good song, but not great.

BRONZE:  Them for Here Comes the Night.  So-so song.  The vocals sound much like the Rolling Stones in the early years.

TIN/PEWTER:  Small Faces for Here Comes the Nice (?).  Sounds like it was a typo on the title, considering the titles of the other ones.  My vote:  "Meh" on this one.

My final answer.

Your theme 'Here Comes' automatically should go to 'There Goes' as well.  Coming and Going.  So, here is the other side of the coin with a few of the going's on.

There's no time like the present....

Gold -- Them -- classic

Silver -- The Beach Boys -- Also classic but not as much

Bronze -- Dave Clark Five -- Distant 3rd

Tin -- The Small Faces -- More distant 4th

This one sounds better to me:

I was going to post Jerry Keller's original "Here Comes Summer" but forgot how lame it is. Cliff Richard did it better on his 2nd album, Cliff Sings, also 1959:

The Kinks' "Who'll Be the Next in Line" would have been gold or silver for me.

A few more:

"Here we come..."

"What's Up?"

"Come On..."

More "Come On..."

What does the future hold?

And a backwards sort of Kinky look to the future:

Finally, coming up next, the many faces of Paul McCartney:

Back later in the week...

t, great start and some excellent music already.

The Strangers, who are suffering from having just too many girls to pick from.  Sounds tough.

Goldenhorse.

And some more classic kiwi rock with Dave Dobbin in DD Smash.

One of the best ever What Comes Next songs:
Quote:
According to Spector biographer Mick Brown, Harry Nilsson wrote "This Could Be the Night" as a tribute to Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys. Nilsson brought it to Spector, whose productions Wilson greatly admired. Nilsson and Spector are often listed as the songwriters, including by BMI, the performing rights organization. However, Nilsson biographer Alyn Shipton notes that the song was copyrighted by Nilsson alone on March 30, 1966....

Shipton describes the lyrics as expressing "the heady mixture of hope, desire, and fear experienced when a couple who have been dating for a while are on the point of finally conquering their inhibitions and making love for the first time." Wilson deemed it one of Nilsson's very best compositions and one of Spector's best productions, explaining "Well, the idea they've been dating and waiting and finally they made love … I love that message." Hiya! Thanks for this weeks songs! [smile]

Gold: Them - Here Comes the Night
Silver: Beach Boys - Here Comes the Night
Bronze: Dave Clark Five - Here Comes Summer

Tin: Small Faces - Here Come the Nice

This week Gold was a very clear gold and the tin was a PAINFULLY clear tin for me haha. I spent the whole song waiting for the nice and it just never came... what an anti-climax! [wink]

I'm being sneaky at work so I haven't had time to think about an additional video for the theme. I'll get back to you on that one! [smile]
