I hadn't heard this version but it was recommended in a tribute by an Aussie newspaper.  Did not know Aretha had been named by Rolling Stone as the greatest singer of all time (2010).  Brian at 50-something though?

Oh... in the Sixties.  A bit early for the above but it can stand as my tribute.

These guys started in the 2000s but have the sound though.  Other song I've thought of are also not from the 60s and in one case I don't like it anyway...

D.A.N., great call regarding the Explorers Club’s debut Freedom Wind album. Lots of fine songs on that album and paying tribute to the sounds of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys.

And they had an outstanding drummer in Johny Barbata.

Lee forgot to mention that Johny quit the Turtles (to be replaced by John Seiter from Spanky & Our Gang), and went to work for CSN&Y (after Dallas Taylor), and from there he went to Jefferson Airplane and Jefferson Starship.

As for Aretha...Rock Steady

Great story, Lee, about the Turtles coming out and blowing everybody's socks off.  Thanks for sharing.

Dan, an excellent addition with the Explorers Club.  I also enjoy a lot of their Freedom Wind album.  Have you seen the cover art for their Together album?  I can't seem to paste it here, but worth a look as you might recognise its influence.  Thanks also for your votes.

Thanks, t, for more Aretha.  Yesterday I was playing her loud whilst cleaning and she sure did help.

I didn't know she covered this in 2014.  She sounds great.

Larry, thanks for more great clips.  Currently running through that list of big names now ...

Friends album. Right, bonnie?

And, Turtles fans, for a good hoot, go find Howard Kaylan’s Turtles biopic from a decade or so ago, My Dinner with Jimi!

Absolutely right, Tom.

I looked up the movie.  It still exists out there.

David, you have almost evened the points for the Beach Boys (33) and the Turtles (34).

Thank you for your votes. Thank you.

Connie Stevens has sixteen very good reasons.

That's enough smooching for this week.

Mel Carter - "Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me"
youtube.com/watch?v=uKturN4Beyg

Jimi Hendrix - "Purple Haze" live (excuse me while I kiss this guy, I mean, the sky)
youtube.com/watch?v=SHdlSolwktU

Bob Dylan - "Visions of Johanna" and "Sad-Eyed Lady of the Lowlands", both live

Now, little boy lost, he takes himself so seriously,
He brags of his misery, he likes to live dangerously,

And when bringing her name up
He speaks of a farewell kiss to me

youtube.com/watch?v=Peu4UIzAGUA

The kings of Tyrus with their convict list
Are waiting in line for their geranium kiss

And you wouldn’t know it would happen like this
But who among them really wants just to kiss you?

youtube.com/watch?v=E9HLum_mrB4

Bobby Darin - "Beyond the Sea" (we'll meet beyond the shore, we'll kiss just as before)
youtube.com/watch?v=m8OlDPqYBLw

Thank you, bonnie.

bonnie, that 'Seven Little Girls Sitting in the Back Seat' was originally a hit for American Paul Evans in 1959.

He was also a successful songwriter (two #1 hits).

But his next solo hit in Australia was this gem in 1979, shortlisted for my Tracks of Tragedy week a few years ago.

Do yourself a favour...

Other kissing songs in my collection include:

youtube.com/watch?v=HCK90CmnhYs
(I Wonder Who's Kissing Her Now - Harry Nilsson)

youtube.com/watch?v=ekagdKvCryY
(Passionate Kisses - Mary Chapin Carpenter)

youtube.com/watch?v=_EN4SLPpuxg
(It Started With a Kiss - Hot Chocolate)

youtube.com/watch?v=-2W3_toVyO4

(Kissin' in the Back Row of the Movies - The Drifters)

(A Kiss at the End of the Rainbow - Mitch & Mickey)

So I'll cast - my votes.

Gold - by a runaway train to the Beach Boys for doing their "girl group" tributes.
Silver - goes to Dusty - I'm kind of a sucker for that album.
Bronze to Petula - just because.
Tin - to the Turtles - they weren't no Byrds.

There was mention earlier this week of Leslie Gore being better/more important than Petula or Dusty??? NO way. Genre crossers always beat the
one trick ponies. Of course we lost one of the BIG g-crossers this past week and many have commented already.

Back to kissin' in the 50's - did we get Eddie Cochran doin' his thing in the balcony? And with that the Chordettes would be as well with the sound effect.

So here's to everyone having puckered up this week! Good one, Bonnie.

Thanks for your votes, Al.  I'd added wrong and the Turtles and the Beach Boys were actually equal at 33 after David, so you've just given the boys a bit of a boost.
