Safari Club International’s annual convention promotes the senseless killing of wild animals
https://www.humanesociety.org/news/safari-club-internationals-annual-convention-promotes-senseless-killing-wild-animals-0

“Thousands of trophy hunters from around the world will gather next week in Reno, Nev. (Feb. 5 through 8), for Safari Club International’s annual convention, which will feature approximately 870 exhibitors showcasing and selling trophy hunting opportunities and wildlife parts and products, from animal heads to hides.” ....

“Kitty Block, president and CEO of the Humane Society of the United States, said, “This annual event is the largest meeting in the world of people who celebrate the senseless killing, buying and selling of dead animals for bragging rights. As our planet suffers an extinction crisis, it is business as usual for the trophy hunting industry and SCI, who continue to revel in spending millions of dollars every year to destroy imperiled wildlife.””...

“In addition to Donald Trump Jr. speaking at the event, the Beach Boys and Charlie Daniels are scheduled to perform at the convention. The group REO Speedwagon had been scheduled, but they pulled out of the event and HSUS and HSI applauds their decision. ”...

What on EARTH are they (Mike/Bruce) thinking? How to destroy a brand - Beach Boys in one foolish instance.

At some point Brian may have to issue a statement as one of the founders of this great band.

Mike has finally crossed the line. Not good.

You are known by what you do. Shame on any band that would perform at this sickeningly reprehensible example of animal cruelty. Shame on anyone who would support a band that would perform at this "convention".

Al, you are correct. A line has been crossed and there's no coming back from it. The only way fans can communicate their disapproval of this money-grab of an appearance is to make sure they don't reward this behavior by purchasing concert tickets for future BB events. Money speaks both ways.

I was actually planning to go to a Mike and Bruce show this year. I always support Brian and band first, but thought what the hey, go to a BB's show after all.  NOW, definitely not.  He is going to hear a lot of resistance over this.  All this to wear a stupid MAG red hat Mike?  Foolish.

What I believe that he is REALLY doing is using this as a news cycle event so that he can pull out at the last minute and make a statement. OR he really does want the support of the ultra right, gun lovers and animal extinction fans. One of the most barbaric causes that anyone could possibly support.  Someone will enlighten him.  I don't think that he is this foolish. But … we'll see. Maybe people were right about him all along and I just didn't see it. This is so sad.

I understand that since Mike lives in Tahoe, this is a lazy easy gig for him.   I see a second option.   Hold a press conference, or just state some pro animal right thing from the stage.  that might appeal to him.  it would get attention.  He/they could/should make some comment now on the horse-killers at Santa Anita Race Track.  This is an issue that will likely push horse racing eventually in the direction of where Barnum & Bailey went.   Even independent of planetary conservation and green concerns, these are smart business decisions, Mr. Love.

I'm puzzled as to why Mike and Bruce, who are vegetarians, are even considering playing this event. I don't have a Facebook account, but Mike has one and apparently reads fan comments.

Yep - there is something REALLY wrong going on. And they have little time now to fix it!

I went to the Safari site (which is sickening to go to and see their events) and about global protection (or something like that).

Here's hoping that at least M and B know what they are getting into and the toxicity that this will create.

I’m suggesting further comments on this topic be posted under the Main Forum post to avoid unnecessary duplication. The Main Forum post is easier to find with a better title and placement.
