My word, I'd forgotten just what a wonderful piece of work it is. Brian's best solo offering ? Yes, IMHYEO*, it is. Great songs, great performances and a cohesive concept. All that and Brian's very best solo song. What's not to adore ?

[* in my humble yet expert opinion]

AGD - As you once said (if I remember rightly) " TLOS is Brian's crowning glory".

Yes, a wonderful album, and the moment Brian showed the world, and most of all himself, that he could "do it again". [smile]

Loved that album and still do.  Remember when Brian previewed the songs here at HIS site on the Blueboard?  Hopefully he will double-do-it-again and present new pieces of songs here for upcoming album.

I'll always remember hearing it on a cold night in NYC Hammerstein Ballroom.  There were these picture book souvenirs on our seats - hope that I still have it somewhere!

It sounded, in a way, like a lost Beach Boy album as you could almost picture them doing it.  But Scott Bennett and his wife (Mrs. B) got busy with this and Brian and the band of course and created a really beautiful album.

Thanks for reminding us, AGD, humble-yet-expert - so known now as THE humble expert - a good way to be!  Stay humble.

No question it is the highlight of his solo career. The songs, the arrangements, the subject matter, and perhaps also best lead vocals of the solo era (think it was because of the Capitol Tower?!)

Plus, with the exception of the 2 SMiLE concerts I saw, seeing him perform the album live was the top show I've seen him do (Hammerstein in NYC.)

Well... Brian did record vocals for the album during the sessions at Capitol, but quite a few of the released versions have the vocals flown in from the demos he did with Scott in the latter's home (=bedroom) studio, notably the utterly majestic "Midnight's Another Day". I asked Scott about that when I interviewed him in the US, January 2008:

Andrew: You've stated in interviews that the album version of "Midnight" makes extensive use of the demo, notably Brian's vocals - were any other parts of other demos flown in like this ?

Scott: A lot of them were. Some were done at Mark Linnett's, but there was something true about his initial enthusiasm, so we went back to the demos.

Andrew, thanks for that clarification. Especially since "Midnight" is not only the best song on the album, but quite possibly the best thing BW had released since "Til I Die". I still remember the incredible feeling I had when I 1st heard "Midnight" on this very Board.

Lucky Old Sun is an excellent album and quite possibly Brian's best solo album to date.

Very few artists after a life time of great work can pull off a double whammy like Smile then TLOS back to back. Amazing work. TLOS is my favorite Brian album after Pet Sounds.

Some bonus tracks from Best Buy and iTunes versions of TLOS which I don't think you can get any more:

I'm Into Something Good with Carole King

Message Man

Just Like Me and You

There is also Oh Mi Amor and "Good Kind of Love" (With Carole King instead of Taylor) but can't find those videos.
