Hi All:

There's an attempt to organize a fairly large memorial for Nick Walusko (Nicky Wonder) that will accommodate all those Nicky touched over the years.  I'm sure you realize the cost associated with such an endeavor can grow quite large.  The fundraiser is being organized by one of Nick's close friends - on behalf of Nick's wife Susan:

"In preparation for Nick’s services, Susan became aware that his passing was significant to a very large community of friends. This would make his memorial larger than expected. Part of these funds will help Nick to be remembered in a way that those who loved him feel was due."

And if enough funds are raised, Nick's solo album will be completed and released.

I recognize a few Community posters in the list of donors.  I know we all have the heart - so if you have the funds, please consider donating to Nick's memorial.

Thank you kindly.

-Doug

I'm sorry I'm so late in seeing this Doug! Thanks for giving us a place to support Nicky's music in the future, and to honor him. I've missed a lot because of a few issues, but really appreciate and support this.

Oh, and I forgot to mention that, while the goal is extremely high on the gofundme, if we can support Nick's music being shared with the world, it's worth scraping up what we can to share his wonderful work. I just did. I find that when I give to good causes like this, the money always shows up along with the satisfaction of being part of something good.

It's also a good way for me to celebrate having met Brian 50 years ago today. It was a wonderful afternoon on Ivar with a great chat there, followed by a listening session of John Sebastian's new album (Brian and I both loved it). Some people seem to have creepy, unfounded ideas about any time I was alone with Brian. What they don't know is that at that time, Fred Vail's front door faced mine - a few feet apart - and the doors were always open. It was a kind of fun, relaxed party area.

Well put, Debbie.  You (again) seem to have a way of adding proper perspective for such subjects.

Very cool anniversary to recall Debbie, no doubt.  Nice thing is, though, today we have a new cross-section of readers/followers here and elsewhere when it comes to the world of Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys.  And though that cross-section includes an open-minded me and many others around here, it also includes many folks younger and even more open-minded…or realistic.  We can recognize the male ego BS in the words of earlier rock magazine writers.

I'm afraid egos and insecurities make all of us less than we could be. We have so twisted gender relations, dominance, and other issues that there is tremendous healing to do. Some may make it, some not. There's always the opportunity. I love when the younger, new fans have questions. I hope "egos" don't drive them away. The weird competition some fans seem to feel to always know more, have seen more shows, whatever is a waste of everyone's time. I think young fans know more than to take those people seriously. Let's just answer their questions. How would they know what happened before they were born?

Guess I have to get this DVD.  LOVE what they say.  Nick's got the passion.

It just seems more difficult to believe what has happened and the Mints themselves - the grieving.  Oh boy!

Thanks for the clip, KC.
Once again, the fellas come off so humble with Nick being particularly soft spoken in spite of their talents.
Gotta say...Darian does some bang-on impersonations of BW!

You are all very welcome. I saw him the last 3 times that they came to Chicago. I have some video of their warm ups. I remember him being such a presence on stage with his black hat and interesting shirt/ties. I also remember thinking that he was so talented and seamless. In watching the video, he was also an extremely nice guy. Huge loss ....so sorry to everyone....
