Good to see the "Sail on Sailor" video above!  That was from a gig in Leytonstone in September 2012. The gig emerged after I spent months sending Facebook messages to Nelson and my old friend Tony Poole trying to arrange a meeting between them. Nelson was a great fan of Tony's band Starry Eyed and Laughing, but hadn't met him previously. Eventually the connection was made, after much encouragement the gig was set up. On the night of the gig, I felt terrible trepidation that it might not happen. Brian's Band were flying in to England on the same day, and there was torrential rain in London. Miraculously it all came together at the very last minute, with Probyn, Scott, and Paul Steel joining Nelson and Tony onstage.

still waiting more few more details for the brighton gig i've booked
for the greys, brighton, monday 3 september.
anny celsi / nelson bragg /duncan maitland / tony poole
whose '50th summer of love' tour last year was a blast.
tony poole''s 1970's band, starry eyed and laughing,
was exceedingly byrds influenced
and he began to add his rickenbacker guitar sound to this combo last year.
a very luvverly chap.
he's also the 'poole' in current uk roots / americana supergroup bennett wilson poole,
whose album is in running for best of the year.

I am very sad to hear this. He was so kind to the fans, and so much good energy.

Nelson will be touring the U.K. again in the summer with Anny Celsi, Duncan Maitland and on several dates Tony Poole. it's been a real treat to see nelson playing this tour alongside
anny celsi  and duncan maitland.
if you can get hold of the cd they put together, do do so.
their repertoire is topnotch.
onstage an off, they're jolly good good sorts.
looks like, as on other tours, they're never short of guests
at venues along the way.
musicians have been flocking to join the shows.
totally marvellous to have the legendary tony poole choose
to share the stage on some nights
- especially here in sunny brighton at the greys gig
i (as terrace cred.) promoted.

missing 'em already
(and no, we'll not be heading over to ireland to catch any of those shows).
cheers

Muso's have to also go where the $$'s are.  The touring band don't make as much
as people think.  They don't have the luxury of retiring on their million dollar accounts,
because they simply don't have it.  In Brian's case, he works a period of the year and then
has a break.  The other guys fall onto doing their own projects or working with other
groups like Darian has done or Jeff.
Musicians also dry up themselves when they are not doing anything more creative which
presents another aspect of it.  Brian hasn't really been doing anything creative in the
live set for some time.  Gone are the deep solo tracks, BB rarities from nearly 20 years ago.
I've interacted with Nelson several times, and he is one super cool dude.
Got a few different goodies he has sent me over the years too.
Amazing what a change of habitat can do to a artist.
Look at Foskett, how much happier and healthier he looks with the M&B show.
Probably a lot less stress on him too working with a guy like Brian when you
never know when he's gonna be 'ON' and simply 'just not there'.
All these guys have to slowly look to the future, Brian's not going to be doing
this that much longer on a large scale.

Some good points, Rick - Each year must present challenges to find the right balance, starting of course with $.
I can imagine the creativity factor is real (though not in Foskett’s case…but I agree his is unique).  The money and the steady work must be first.

Yes, there's been a lot of Pet Sounds/Greatest Hits lately.  But those rarities aren't all gone - late last year I heard some great gems from the “1967 Sunshine Tomorrow” (‘Let the Wind Blow,’ ‘I’d Love Just Once to See You,’ and ‘Aren’t You Glad’).  Good that Al brings his own flavor too, such as ‘Susie Cincinnati.’  And just last week, I saw the band really getting a kick out of the holiday songs.  And as always, Brian seems to backfill that band nicely.

OK – so to keep the set fresh, Brian rests up, cuts a great LP, and takes it on the road Fall 2019.  Just a New Year’s wish.

Just a suggestion. People who really love and support the band might want to drop this subject. Since some of you seem to be so tight with them, why don't you ask the current band directly, what happened in this situation and how they felt about the results, to their faces?

I wish all great musicians had job security. Genuinely. If it were up to me, extremely gifted people should be paid incredibly well. And yes, I love and support this band, and whatever decisions they make.

Can we let this go, now? I doubt it serves Brian's band.

I also wish Nelson well.

How Foskett became part of this is beyond me. Anyone?

It's the poor misfortune of the subject title that's the problem Debbie.  Looking back, the thread changed into a promotion of Nelson's shows and tangential subjects.  I don't think anyone means any disrespect to the current line-up.  Always a great group - always.

Agreed about the thread title. Can it be changed?

I'm all for people who want to support Nelson's current projects and shows.

I know the fans love the band. What's not to love? There uber-talented, spot on whatever Brian's doing  and wonderful to the fans.

I just think when fans indulge in band gossip we're counter-productive. We have no clue really, what goes on behind the scenes. At best, we probably only have one person's perspective. A group of accomplished people essentially living and working together for weeks on end probably disagree occasionally, get exhausted, etc. I just respect their privacy and ability to work so well together.

Just tested this Debbie - It's a qualified 'yes'...yet only the Original Poster (OP) can make that change - and only within a certain period of time (
did not work when I tried a 2-yr old thread, but works fine for a 30-day thread).

Easier to just make a new thread - or reply to another in this same category to bump this one down.
