Saw this today on another forum.  To be released September 22, a nice compilation of some of Brian's best works on each LP released since 1988...including two previously-unreleased tracks, "Some Sweet Day" and "Run James Run."  The latter is not the "Pet Sounds" instrumental we all LOVE - rather, apparently a (much) newer composition that features backing vocals from Matt and Al Jardine.

A rather nice compilation celebrating his re-birth in the solo artist market:
  1. Love & Mercy
  2. Surf’s Up
  3. Heroes & Villains
  4. Melt Away
  5. Let It Shine
  6. Some Sweet Day
  7. Rio Grande
  8. Cry
  9. Lay Down Burden
  10. The First Time
  11. This Isn't Love
  12. Soul Searchin'
  13. Gettin' In Over My Head
  14. The Like In I Love You
  15. Midnight’s Another Day
  16. Colors Of The Wind
  17. One Kind Of Love
  18. Run James Run

Wow, this is nice! (And a long time coming!) There is definitely enough of Brian's solo material to warrant a 'best of' album. An awesome photo and cover design too - cool 'heart beat' style graphic. I am definitely adding this to my collection -thanks for posting Bugs!

One of those GREAT gift products.  I gave out a LOT of Christmas cds and NPP when they came out.  This may be yet another to spread and share the love and joy of this music.

Excellent Idea, Al - A quick way to answer those comments "He recorded without the Beach Boys?!?"

Sorta On & Off-Topic - so I'm using my own BW “Anthology” thread [wink]:

Two days ago, long-time poster/music scholar on this board, and moderator on the smiley-smile board, guitarfool2002 (Craig) wrote a great – if not harsh - response to certain smiley-smiler’s bashings/doubts about this upcoming Brian Wilson compilation…over on that board.  I'm mentioning this here to both applaud him - and make a point.

Re smiley-smile dot com - Of course, there are good, good people who post on that board, and have so for years (Craig, Lee, DebbieKL, Ang, Thorgil…just to name a few); however, they are too often joined by some ss regulars who only want to stir it up (and I mean too often).  And sure, I've acquired a great deal of excellent and valid information through smiley-smile over the last few years; however, in doing so, I’ve witnessed some jerks who seemingly can't understand just how short life really is.  I'm not going to link Craig's post - it's easy to find if you look for the discussion about this album in their board (and even easier if you look for reply #62).  I don't want to indirectly consign someone to years of annoyance at the hands of some oddballs.

Re BrianWilson.com – Nearly each time I visit that other site, it reaffirms my choice to limit my forum membership to just this site.  Though I love the subject matter, I can't see myself ever wanting to frequent that board more than necessary (this goes for another board or two with even worse offenders).

So a big thanks to the real Brian Wilson/Beach Boys fans we have here (some of whom take care of things over there).  Though our active membership is not large, we can share information and stories here without dreading the inevitable troublemaker trolls.

I'd prefer it to be A Brian Wilson Anthology.

I can't wait for this release. It's about time Brian had a solo "Best Of". Yes, I have all of the albums, but what a great collection to be able to play or gift. I could have added a few more songs, personally (from , Imagination, Lucky Old Sun, IJWMFTT, and No Pier Pressure). I am not a fan of the Disney song chosen, not because of Brian's performance, it is fine. Just not a fan of that song. I would have chosen another from that album. But - quibbles. Great collection! I am very excited about "Run, James, Run" and "Some Sweet Day". I like the cover art and am excited about having one cd to play for others who are not familiar with Brian's wonderful solo career.

GOOD points made here and elsewhere about MORE of Brian's great solo tracks being added - of course, that would require a second CD.  It's likely too late to alter the inertia of this release...which is why I like the idea of a "Volume II".

And because I can dream without fear of a smiley-smile-type argument ensuing (or a Mike Love lawsuit), I'll assume I can pick from any one of Brian's released LPs or unreleased tracks (without spoiling the dream John B and I hold re a real LP release of The Paley Sessions).  But because I like to dream in a realistic manner (yeah - boring), my Volume II will be constructed similar to the upcoming Anthology, in that it will draw from most of Brian's LPs and include previously-unreleased tracks.  It, too, is designed to further-attract the new fans while providing the long-time fans with a couple of surprises.  In general chronological order:

1.One for the Boys (BW ’88)

2.Walkin’ the Line (BW ’88)

3.It’s Not Easy Bein’ Me (The Paley Sessions)

4.This Song Wants to Sleep with You (The Paley Sessions)

5.Mary Anne (The Paley Sessions)

6.‘Till I Die (IJWMFTT)

7.Your Imagination (Imagination)

8.The Little Girl I Once Knew (Live at the Roxy)

9.Back Home (Live at the Roxy)

10.Roll Plymouth Rock (BWP SMiLE)

11.Wonderful (BWP SMiLE)

12.Wind Chimes (BWP SMiLE)

13.Going Home (TLOS)

14.Southern California (TLOS)

15.Nothing But Love (BWRG)

16.This Beautiful Day (NPP)

17.Whatever Happened (NPP)

18.Sail Away (NPP)

19.-Brian Surprises Us Here- (From his Forthcoming NEW LP)

Of course, while compiling this list, I realized there's enough solid material for Volume III!

So make your edits to my list - or make up a new Vol II, or Vol III.  And if you'll dream with me, perhaps someone will read our wishes.

Good list Bugs. Great idea for a Vol. 2 set.

I would add:

Meet Me In my Dreams Tonight (Brian '88)
South American (Imagination)
Where Has Love Been (Imagination)
This Whole World (IJWMFTT)
Darlin (Roxy)
Orange Crate Art (OCA)
Wings Of A Dove (OCA)
Sail Away (OCA)
Tell Me Why (NPP)
Water Builds Up (SI)

That's it, Curt -  Most of your songs jumped out at me when I dreamed up Volume II...very worthy.  I didn't go into Orange Crate Art territory, though (that's me not dreaming big enough).  You have a good half of Vol III here.

Hey Myra - Haven't seen you on here lately.  You, the determined gal who pedals across the Brooklyn Bridge to see Brian...while wearing that awesome Pet Sounds shirt!
