Hi all,

Happy Friday to one and all!!!

I am looking forawrd to the release of No Pier Pressure.  I think it would be great if the album got released on the day we see the first robin or spring.  Also, No Pier Pressure would be a fantastic Easter gift.  What does everyone else think?

Normal street dates are Tuesdays, and the first day of Spring is a Friday this year (March 20).  However, there are occasionally new releases on Fridays.

However, the Tuesday prior to the first day of spring happens to be St. Patrick's Day.  Maybe we'll have a little luck o the Irish and have it released on that day so we can have a green beer or a Guinness while enjoying NPP.

I hope the official release date for No Pier Pressure is announced real soon.  Brian's obviously finished with the album now it's in Capitol's hands.  It would also be cool if we get the first single by late Winter.

In UK physical albums are usually released on Mondays.
Keep checking the link below for NPP.

Listening to "Any Emotions" had two effects on me: looking forward to the Mini Mansions' new album "The Great Pretenders" (I dig the title too), and looking forward 200% to "No Pier Pressure". Both are somewhat announced as Spring releases. Let's hope to be drenched in melody, harmony and rock and roll. There is nothing better in the universe.

Be interesting to see how NPP stacks up against Brian's previous releases, allowing for the change in the sales demographic, of course. For reference (high position/weeks on chart)...

Brian Wilson               54/11
Imagination                88/2
GIOMH                      100/1
BWPS                         13/18
WIRWFC                   200/1
That Lucky Old Sun      21/4
Re-imaginesGershwin 26/4
In The Key Of Disney   83/1

AGD,

The release info posted was very interesting.  Is there any sales info available for the previous releases mentioned in your post?

I'm keeping my fingers crossed that Brian will announce the release date of No Pier Pressure during his chat on Monday.

I'd say that it's 100% certain that he will Jeremy.  I don't know that he will for sure...but why bother going through ALL OF THIS if he isn't going to do it?

Maybe he just wants our mailing addresses so that he can send us all some money?

Naw...I'm going with the release date for the new album.[wink]

I'm starting to get the feeling that No Pier Pressure might be all guest vocalists.  And I'm not against that but I do want to hear Brian singing on the album as well.  Well maybe even if he doesn't sing the main lead we'll still hear him sing certain verses along with doing backing vocals.  And for us Brian die hards I think it would be cool if there is a Deluxe Double album where the second disc has the same songs but with Brian singing lead on them.  Because chances are he at least did a demo as a guide for the guest singer to follow.

Jeremy,

I just hope if a deluxe version is released, it won't be one of those situations where the single disc album comes out, then about six months later, the super deluxe bonus edition is released, forcing loyal fans to purchase the album a second time for the extra material.

I definitely agree.  If there is a two CD deluxe edition I think it should be made available on the same release date.   That happens too often where a deluxe edition comes out months after the initial album is released.  Of course Brian certainly has the right to only release the songs with the guest vocalists on them and keep any with him doing the lead in the vaults.  Or if there is a deluxe version they might just include select tracks with Brian on lead.    I think it was Joe Thomas who said he really hopes Brian's version of "The Last Song" gets to be heard since Brian's vocals are really strong on it.  I believe Lana Del Ray is singing it on the album.  I'm not too familiar with Lana Del Ray but it seems like she takes on rather dark material.  And even Brian has hinted that "The Last Song" is a downbeat one so I guess going by that Lana was the right choice for the dark song on the album.

Even though I wasn't too keen on a guest vocalist Brian album at first I will say I now am interested.  But I still hope the songs have Brian's touch to them in terms of the music and backing harmonies.  I wouldn't want him to attempt to totally change his style just to accomodate current artists.  But even back in the 60s when Brian produced some other artists the songs generally still had his touches.  Hopefully that will not change with No Pier Pressure.

I thought that Joe Thomas quote was a little strange.  Wouldn't he have some control over whether or not the version with Brian on lead vocals will be released?  Maybe it's a label decision.  Lana Del Ray is pretty hip right now apparently.  Maybe it's Brian's decision and he believes she sings it better than him.

I think there's only going to be guest leads on four tracks, and so far, "Last Song" is the only track I've read about that has two versions - one with the guest on lead & one with Brian on lead.

Simple solution is to release the album with Brian singing lead on "Last Song" as a bonus track.   And maybe the new All Star version of "God Only Knows" as a bonus track too.  I'm not a huge fan of some of the stars on that track, but I'd love to have it just for the brief Brian May lead guitar part.  I've been holding out to see if it'll be included on NPP before I buy a copy of "God Only Knows."

Andrew's how NPP stacks up list (above) is most interesting, and in addition to the numbers comparison it guides you through an aural review of NPP history. For those not already doing so in preparation for NPP, give Andrew's list a listen...
