For all he did to spruce this place up and add a real degree of authenticity and depth...not to mention class...to the place ... ... ...well whoever had a hand in making this the case should be "FIRED!!!"

Thanks to Craig who did SO MUCH to better organize and present this site.  Our loss is nobody's gain.  At least nobody of worth or value to me.  These days?  The place is about 4 heartbeats per minute away from being DEAD.

And where the heck is Debbie?  A great asset...awol...as well.  Our losses are too noticeable.  Or has anyone actually noticed at all?

I've noticed in both cases and I hope we see both Debbie and Craig here again.

I do as well.  I posted a WIBN structural breakdown and he (Craig) pointed out that in fact the middle section is poly-tonal, as the Carol Kaye character stated in the film L&M.  He was right!  My ears were awakened and I am appreciative for that.

But for now, the original campers can keep the campfire going.  Have a marsh-mellow Lee and Ang?

Al's got the marsh-mellows.  I think I was offering popcorn in another thread.  Where else do Beach Boys/Brian Wilson fans eat as well?  I really thought this place had taken a HARD TURN toward a better future when Craig showed up here.  MAN!!!  A real qualified and able-bodied moderator with CRED.  And Debbie to add a little inside heart and soul?  Perfect.

I guess not quite as much as I had hoped for.  Grabbin' Craig was a real coup.  A coup...wasted.  And now we're all left hangin'.

Hi Doug!

I must admit I haven't been visiting here much lately - it used to be my first port of call after turning on the computer. I used to call those (mainly US fans) who posted during what was night for me 'the night shift'. There were so many fascinating posts to read. At first I was too shy to contribute. It was a bit intimidating!

Greetings to Al and Lee and to Thorgil if she is reading this thread - to all those indeed who are trying to keep it going.

Thanks Ang, and greeetings back! I am not posting much... simply don't have much to say these days, but am reading this forum and the Smiley one every day. I also read the Pet Sounds Forum but never signed there as a member, for reasons somebody (and surely Craig!) may guess.

Very nice thread, Lee. I miss Debbie and Craig's contributions here, too, though in Craig's case he is very much active in the Smiley forum. Debbie, instead, has been missing for a while, and I hope she's alright and is simply taking a "vacation" from the wonderful wacky world of BB/BW fandom. [smile]

Let's hope that the works for a new Brian album go on, with a steady flux of rumours and hype, be it the fabled R&R at last, or something else!

I recall Debbie [KL] saying something about a writing project which was going to demand a ton of her attention.  Yes?  No?  Maybe?  I'm gonna contact Craig to see what's up ... today.  Ray is missing too but he wasn't as prolific a poster.  That said the site is a mountain better with him here and contributing...even if only weekly or bi-weekly.

There's a new album coming.  Brian is into year 3 of a 50th anniversary tour.  Huh?  The Beached Boys continue to tour hither and yon.  AND...Face book has NO credibility anymore.  Can't trust 'em - so rust 'em.  Message boards could take on more significance and a larger workload in the near future...like...now.

I want to see this important site strengthen and prosper.  Glad to see I'm not alone...Ang, Thorgil, Bugs, Al. [Craig, Debbie, Ray, Hal?]  I've seen a couple of different sites slow to a crawl and die.  We need more than the 'battle' to keep this one afloat.

Darren does a great job and puts a LOT of time and effort into it and let me be clear that I wasn't dissing him when I alluded to Brian dot calm being better off with a mod like Craig.  They both served different areas and purposes.  For the broader scope Craig fulfilled a position which was pretty much blank and always has been as Michael has never really been a regular, full time, hands on guy.

It's just odd to have seen all of the work that went into improving this site just stop and be replaced by the chorus of 1,000 crickets.  So I squeak.  You squeak.  We squeak.  Let's see if anybody in a position to wants to apply a little oil.  [or is this whole 'blueboard' thing now just an ancient afterthought and not worthy of any more care and attention?]
------------------

p.s.  Thorgil...I don't even read the P.S.board...let alone participate. I want to enjoy myself at least part of the time.  I would guess that it's going to be too much of a soap opera for me.  Life's too short!!!

Just to extend this thread a little bit, whatever happened to AGD?  Was it the dust-up a few years ago with Carol Kaye?  I do miss his expertise.

Thanks thorgil - I can take a wild stab of a guess at why you haven't signed on at the Pet Sounds Forum! Nor have I and I've only read very occasionally.

I do still visit Smiley Smile and Craig is very much in evidence there which is as it should be.

I agree with Lee. Facebook has become a bit of a black hole insofar as it draws attention from sites like this one but so much on Facebook is either political, concerned with various lobbies or with trivia that it can be very tedious upon occasion.

I don't know why AGD doesn't post here any more. He was banned from Smiley Smile.I suppose he prefers to contribute to the Pet Sounds Forum.

Hope it isn't pretentious to quote from this brilliant WH Auden poem, 1 September 1939:

Defenseless under the night
Our world in stupor lies;
Yet, dotted everywhere,
Ironic points of light
Flash out wherever the Just
Exchange their messages:
May I, composed like them
Of Eros and of dust,
Beleaguered by the same
Negation and despair,
Show an affirming flame.

It's been wonderful to exchange messages with some of those who love Brian Wilson's music and the more our world lies in stupor, or some of its population just LIE, the more it is necessary to try to keep the communication going!

There were some 'issues' which happened over at Smiley Smile Dan.  If any of 'it' happened here???  I don't know.  At any rate Andrew's credibility was called to the microscope for scrutiny and it didn't pass muster.  He was soon gone from there...and here.

Whatever he was accused of...all I can say is he never tried or did any of THAT with me.  I always told him that I had his back.  In this case he should have had it too.  But... ... ...

EVERYBODY lost on that one.  EVERYBODY!!!

Some of us have been here for 3 or 4 changes.  I guess when you get used to something...change can sometimes be a bit of an annoyance...'til you get used to it.  But things are better organized and easier to find/access.  I do miss the old BLUE board but I don't miss the old 'bad word checker'.  There was a time when you would type out your latest 'dissertation' only to have it blocked due to some stray word...or you might, if you were really unlucky, just lose the whole thing into cyberspace...gone forever.  Pray you didn't have to write anything which dealt with Dick Dale or Dick Clark... ... ...or any other 'Richard'.

Anyway...Craig should be along at some point soon to weigh-in.  [betcha I weigh more. [wink] ]

I'm still here. [smile]

Hope to get more time to post.

Just working on revisiting a classic photo of Brian which, from all I've been able to figure out, dates from December 1966.

If everything still lines up, that is the Mark C Bloome tire dealership in the background, which was located at 6210 Sunset Blvd. The corner of Sunset and El Centro Ave. For reference the Hollywood Palladium is 6215 Sunset.

Columbia Studios where Brian was doing sessions most likely when that photo was taken was at 6121 Sunset. Western was a few blocks away at 6000 Sunset.

So here is the photo lightened up a bit too much to show background details like the Bloome business and a VW Beetle on Sunset, as well as some newer images of the intersection. If all lines up that would place the photographer who snapped Brian atop that car that night on the same block as the Palladium on Sunset looking across the street toward the Bloome shop.

I wish there were more photos from this night available...anyone know if there are?

Brian on the car:

[zKnK8qH]

The white building on the right would have been Columbia's studio facilities in '66. The sign reading "Discount Tire Center" on the left would have been Mark C Bloome in '66. The Palladium marquee sign is to the left of the green building at the intersection.
[VtTRpzR]

Sunset and El Centro. That black car bottom right is most likely parked where the car Brian was walking on was parked in 1966.
[qOTpDcl]

And finally, a super-super brightened photo of Brian recording at Columbia as seen in the American Band documentary as silent film...wearing the same clothes as in the street photo. Which can be concluded it was most likely film shot at Columbia the same night the photo was taken.
