I hadn't seen this mentioned. Nothing too new but a summary to date. Is the author in the room?

Thanks for the link.

'The album's centerpiece, "Last Song", is described: "A heartbreaking ballad that was recorded in two versions — one with a haunting vocal by [Lana] Del Rey and one with Wilson's lead vocals. The song recounts his sadness about the Beach Boys' dissolution."[13] Don Was commented, "Brian's really on it. I was knocked out by a couple of songs on that last Beach Boys record – 'Summer's Gone' ranks with his greatest work. I didn't expect that he's got a whole other album of stuff on that level ... I got really choked up playing bass on that track. There's something about Brian signing off with it, saying, 'This is it, this is my last song.' It's really intense. If 'Last Song' turned out to be his last song, can you imagine? Wow. That'd be some coda."'

I know it's selfish but I hope that isn't true. Brian may no longer be one of the Beach Boys but his music will surely be with him for the rest of his life. I hope he continues to create for as long as it gives him fulfilment.

That was worth reading.  Looks like THIS will be the 'summation' I was looking for if that info is accurate.  It'll be Brian putting a 'lid' on it all from his own 2015 perspective.  That there's NO lyrical contribution from Tony Asher?  I'm over it.

This 'parting of the ways' in 2012 could very well be a blessing in disguise.  I think it is.  You see the Bruce Johnston mini-review at BBB?

It would be real nice to have present day work from Brian and Tony, and also to see what could happen with other surviving collaborators from the last 55 years. But whatever the outcome Lee, the final product is Brian Wilson, for his talented and successful colaborators are talented and successful because they are wise enough to really tune into Brian and whatever it is that he is on about. They then subsequently help to bring whatever it is forward. They DO NOT author or create "it".

Agreed.  It IS all Brian.  I didn't suggest, I don't think, that I needed the whole group to get together to record the album I had suggested elsewhere...just the folks Brian feels will enhance his project...and the finished product.

Anyway if he himself views Pet Sounds, Smile and THIS new album as the 3 peaks, and pinnacles, of his career then we should be in for what sounds like it's going to be a 100% DOOZER Robert.

Sums it all up nicely.  Brian came...he saw...he conquered...he left.

['cause I just have this feeling...that He's about to do exactly THAT...you know...take it FULL circle and then...wave goodbye.  [wave] ]

that surely is a logical and nice end scenario, Lee, and everybody comes out enriched by Brian's rather remarkable life and creations. Through the years Brian has spoken of an artists obligation and stuff like that. Be not surprised if he presses on. (and personally, I do believe he has some moves we haven't seen yet...)

After hearing what we have heard thus far, come on now, he surely will continue.  A creative can't stop - they HAVE to create! I just can't get "The Right Time" out of my head now.  It's fantastic!

This year has to play out first: new album, MOVIE, and tour.  Yikes, busy year and will there be new discoveries by people either unfamiliar or refamiliarizing with an incredible musical creator?  Say tuned as it is all about to unfold.
