Paul was on CBS late night last night, interviewed with Kurt Russell. Great appearance...unfortunately the full segments aren't available but the best are clipped here. Kurt told a great Beach Boys story about dropping in to the studio where they were working on a 60's classic when he was a child actor (watch Paul's reaction)...and in the second clip has very high praise for Paul's role in Love & Mercy. Check 'em out:

Incredible story from Kurt! Each of us has, at some point, daydreamed about being a fly-on-the-wall at a session for one of the BBs hits...so jealous he got to do that!

Also super nice of him to praise Dano for his L&M performance. Thanks for posting, GF.

GF ; hey these are great video's ; Kurt Russell's stuff is priceless. Playing catch with Elvis FFS !! Glad he gave kudo's to Paul . My opinion on Paul's performance in Love and Mercy is that he dominated the screen. Rooting hard for him on Sunday. If he doesn't win I am calling the cops !

P.s. Rooting equally hard for Brian and Scott too

It is high praise for Paul Dano to hear that from Kurt Russell who has been in the business for over 50 years. And that story Kurt told is beyond cool: Imagine being 12-13 and walking into the Beach Boys working in the studio, then hearing that same song on the radio later! You can tell both Paul and the host James were blown away by that.

Also very telling on how "open" the studios were at that time, where people were walking the halls and interacting, dropping in, etc. I've heard and read several musicians who worked with Spector say they used to see a young guy hanging around Phil's Gold Star sessions in '63 and some wondered who it was, and turns out it was Brian listening, observing, and learning. In just a few years, it would become much more guarded and even secretive because everyone from Brian to the Beatles had good reason to worry about outsiders coming in to evesdrop and steal their ideas.

Awesome clips.
They look enough alike that they could do a father/son movie.

Very true! Seeing them side by side, there is a resemblance.

You can see how big of a fan Paul Dano either is or became as he got into playing the role of Brian and digging deep into the music by his expressions as Kurt told his story about walking into a Beach Boys session when he was a kid.
