Hi everyone,
Lots of us know the story of Brian ceasing touring in 1964. But I am wondering if fans noticed, and what their reaction was. I cannot seem to find anything about fans reacting to Brian not being there.
If anyone has any thoughts, or remembers anything, preferably from around 1964-1966 that would be great!
Thanks.

Many, if not the majority of fans didn't know the individual Beach Boys names.  That being said, a friend of mine in high school was able to tell me of Brian's replacement by Glenn Campbell almost immediately after the change took place.

I heard about Brian's breakdown in Dec. 1964 when a Mississippi radio station announced the BBs' show cancellation in Jackson. The deejay explained about Brian being ill and where to send get-well cards. Bruce Johnston's second ever show (Memphis, 1965) was my first BB concert -- and that's how I found out Brian wasn't touring. The fan magazines at the time eventually picked up on the touring changes.

Yep - don't think that fans really cared that much.  It was still girls screaming time. Meanwhile Brian is laying the foundation for the change of popular music - album-by-album.  Beatles are touring and he isn't.

Occasionally you'd hear a girl holler out, "Where's Brian?" But really not much reaction.
