It... seemed like a good idea at the time.  Not sure now(!)  Anyway, credit to another board for inspiring this idea months ago.

I would have preferred not to have two from same language let alone country, but these are the four I settled on.  I also avoided any that strayed too far from the original lyrics when translated.

I've deliberately omitted the Boys' own non-English versions of their songs.

Sólo Dios sabe (Argentina) - Charly García y Pedro Aznar

La Deg Løftes av Musikk (Norway) - Trygve Thue

Kleines Surfer Girl (Germany) - Die Strandjungs

Hasta Morir en vivo (Argentina) - Super Ratones

For easy cut & paste purposes:

Sólo Dios sabe (Argentina) - Charly García y Pedro Aznar (God Only Knows)

La Deg Løftes av Musikk (Norway) - Trygve Thue (Add Some Music to Your Day)

Kleines Surfer Girl (Germany) - Die Strandjungs (Surfer Girl)

Hasta Morir en vivo (Argentina) - Super Ratones ('Til I Die)

(You're welcome.)

All decent versions, this is how they translate for me:

GOLD - Kleines Surfer Girl (Germany) - Die Strandjungs (Surfer Girl)

SILVER - Hasta Morir en vivo (Argentina) - Super Ratones ('Til I Die)

BRONZE - La Deg Løftes av Musikk (Norway) - Trygve Thue (Add Some Music to Your Day)

TIN - Sólo Dios sabe (Argentina) - Charly García y Pedro Aznar (God Only Knows)

Yes, It's "Add Some Music to Your Day" and it is my #1 here.

1. La Deg Loftes av Mussik (Norway)

really beautiful!  never been to Norway, I was as close as Switzerland and the Alps, but now I want to go.

(Til I Die)

2.   Hasta Morir en Vivo (Argentina)

love this too.   (I've only been to Playa Del Carmen...so far away from Argentina).  Absolutely terrific!

(Surfer Girl)

3. Kleines Surfer Girl  (Germany)

been to Zurich, which is close.  Just saw Michael Moore's "Where do we Invade Next" and it made me like modern Germany more.!

 (God Only Knows)

4. Solo Dio Sabe (Argentina)

actually good too, but someone has to finish fourth, so I went with the most faithful and reverent cover.    Someone who understands Spanish fluently may well tell me that this one has very soulful singing, and it's probably true.  But again, this is my choice based on the other really great covers.

may i throw a couple of french spanners
(i don't know of any spaniards)
in the works?
warning, contains visions and sounds of a potential distrubing nature.
discretion advised.
oh, the horror!
here's a combo that had biiig success in france through the 70's
(simpler days, even for a nation that knew no better).
i do hope adequate royalties were handed out...
martin circus with 'ma-ry-lène' :

and 'by bye cherie'

- only 1000 miles out!
but i'm pretty sure you could yodel across to norway
from your lair in the swiss alps.
norway's a most civilised, wondrous country to visit
(not cheap - so y'may need to go easy on the alcohol intake,
but they spend their tax money on things
that make the nation a better place,
so who begrudges such a notion?).
we're hooked...

and, thanks, d.a.n.
forthe chance for me to bang on once again about
one of most favouritest belgian singer / songwriter,
jacques brel,
and this particular song 'le moribond'
about a cuckolded husband on his deathbed.
it received such a dreadful translation by rod mckuen
which ripped the heart out of its meaning,
turning it into sentimental tosh.
and a recording so awful that the beach boys didn't release it.
brel was inclined to interpret it differently in performance.
here's a cabaret version,
(that has an accurate translation of the original lyrics superimposed
- though quite why 'as good as white bread'
is translated as 'good as gold' slightly evades me,
other than onomatopeia)
and then an on-stage rendering with more of a rush of excitement,
as part of a theatre concert.
cheers - see you later in the week.

Sounds a little like minions to me. Not ready to vote yet, so I'll have to be back.

It's an interesting idea. I can't really choose between the top three, but will anyway:

Gold: Die Strandjungs (Surfer Girl) oder die Strandjungen (Surfermädchen)

Silver: Super Ratones ('Til I Die)

Bronze:  Charly García y Pedro Aznar (God Only Knows)

Tin :  Trygve Thue (Add Some Music....). This was easy because I don't think the song is in the same league. Also, hearing it reminds me of being sick in bed when the original came out as a single in February 1970.

The only foreign language Beach Boys cover that comes to mind is Souvenir's very nice "Ne Dis Pas" from the Caroline Now compilation.

thanks Deb 1.   I like this version of Sloop John B.   and You are perceptive, the Minions include real slang (in humorous places), including Mandarin Chinese and Japanese, so it would not surprise me at all, if there are Korean phrases too.  Koreans dominate animation--look at credits from anything, even the Simpsons...

These songs are all foreign to me so I'll give them a spin and get back with you on my votes.

Well, I don't think this result will turn out how I expected.  Still, it's only 3 voters.

Merci pour vos votes.
