Actually it's been a spectacularly bad 6 weeks or so. Two hard drive crashes, plus an illness that cost me about 5 kilos. Hope things are good with you.

Brian Wilson - Too Much Sugar

Larry Williams - Bony Moronie

Joe Tex - Skinny Legs & All

The Kinks - Skin & Bone

For cut'n'paste purposes:
Brian Wilson - Too Much Sugar
Larry Williams - Bony Moronie
Joe Tex - Skinny Legs & All
The Kinks - Skin & Bone

This is a 'live' clip of Joe Tex performing 'Skinny Legs and All' that t also found.

He's actually lip syncing to the record. REALLY WELL.

My two favourite karaoke 'numbers' are also extra easy to lip sync.  Tequila [Champs] and Wipeout [Surfaris]  Milli Vanilli owe Joe a debt of gratitude.  I never 'dug' lip sync-ers.  They use to do a LOT of that on the idiot box back in the 60s.  Good ol' 'Ed' made 'em all 'do it' live on CBS Sunday nights.

I just posted the results for last week's contest, so while I'm here....

I'll go with this ranking for this week's battle.

Gold:  The Kinks for Skin and Bone.

Silver:  Brian Wilson for Too Much Sugar.  In nine more days, it'll be Brian's birthday and I'm sure he'll get his usual big chocolate cake.  Party on, Bri!

Bronze:  Larry Williams for Bony Moronie.  Fast and catchy.

Tin/Pewter:  Joe Tex for Skinny Legs and All.

It's my final answer on this battle.

t, I know what it's like to have computer issues.  My Mac died several months ago and I'm having to use my son's laptop. Hope you got everything straightened out!

Cindy

t -- Welcome back. We've missed your sonic contributions and your votes.

Gold -- Brian Wilson, "Too Much Sugar" -- I like this one almost as much as this one:

"He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body To Move" (co-written by Lindsey Buckingham. Wouldn't this be a good song to exercise to?)
youtube.com/watch?v=92aSIjtQiJw

Silver -- Larry Williams, "Bony Marony" -- A compelling statement of deep affection. That's how I'd spell "Maronie".

Bronze -- The Kinks, "Skin & Bone"

Tin -- Joe Tex, "Skinny Legs & All"

Young Giant -- "My Body" (As with many contemporary lyrics, I have no idea what this is about, but it's a good one)

I too enjoy He Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move...although I just did... ... ...move... ... ...my poor old body.  And around this time, most evenings, I begin to pour liquids into my poor old body.  And they aren't poor pours either.

Meanwhile...my biggest problem with Too Much Sugar is the too much synth production.  It is an era I loathed...no matter who did it.  Synths and computers as musical instruments...generally...piss me off.  I then hit either eject or off.

Al, enjoyed Fats Waller, very cool.

Slenderbodies, "Anemone"

Aldous Harding, "Small Bones of Courage".  As opposed to that old wives tale about having big bones ...

1.  "Bony Maronie" by Larry Williams

rocks.   kind of a hair-standing on end life he had, before being killed in Los Angeles.  Somehow, Little Richard and Lloyd Price are still alive!   I'm trying to remember from Little Richard's bio, how much he complained about Larry Williams in the 60's trying to make him sound Motown instead of from the South where his genius lay.  or something like that.   Anyway, by far my #1 here.

2. "Too Much Sugar" by Brian Wilson

and yes, I might have made 'Couldn't Get His Poor Old Body to Move' my gold.  But this is genius too.  and it's always funny to me to hear the parts Brian instinctively seems to have thought of Mike Love's voice to sing.  If so, this song could have been on "Adult Child" (and that's high praise coming from me).   Maybe?  Maybe not?   but enough inventive stuff happening here to be a strong #2.

3. "Skin and Bone" by the Kinks

the Kinks are most boring and small when they 'boogie' instead of tell stories.

4. "Skinny Legs and All" by Joe Tex, playing James Brown lite.

by the way, sympathize so much with the computer/internet complaints.!!  Right now, I am typing from work, as I am completely off the grid at home.  This happens with every vacation, even when my wife goes somewhere with the kids without me--as she is doing right now, so I get warnings from Microsoft that they noticed some unusual log-on activity.  They ask you to verify that the unusual activity is yours, by either having a code sent to your alternate email (which is my work, which does not good) or to my phone (which is home, and does no good when I am on vacation).  Perhaps most people have a cellphone so they can easily solve this problem, but I don't own a cellphone.  So, I frantically call ...they were in China, now they're in Japan, and they try to help me place in the apple ID number and password, but I've made so many mistakes I guess, I'm banned.

In my situation, you would think that there should be some easy fix, something like adding a 'guest' icon, just to get to my dang email and the internet to...you know, the weather, find movie times, fishing reports and so forth?   But instead, looks like I will be unable to use the internet at home until my wife gets back in a couple more weeks...

I disappeared on April 30, so I didn’t know you were away!

But the record label still says “Moronie”.

Thanks for the tunes, bonnie & Al.

John, I’m currently locked out of TV listings because I can’t recall the password....and there is no “forgot password?” option. Are they that afraid someone will hack in and change my preferences? The Dem Bones 'boogie' riff is awfully similar to Brian's fave Shortenin' Bread riff, no? Just sayin'.

There’s currently a 3-way tie for the Gold. So your votes count!!

t Bedford may be onto something.  I also think Brian's most boring songs are the ones where he boogies. (e.g., 'The Boogie's back in Town' &  '(You're making me) Hotter' come to mind...

and thanks so much for the Dante and Friends, Al.   All these years and I have never heard that version!

They should have talked to me before they printed those labels.
