The first post-BB Brian concert I saw was the 'Imagination' tour in June 1999 at the Calvin Theater in Northampton, MA, and I have been to quite a few shows since then. We were at the 11/16 show in Clearwater, FL and saddened and disappointed - the band seemed tired and Brian very much out of it - I can honestly say that if you had told me that the postponement of the tour had been due to a minor stroke rather than back surgery, I would have believed you. We considered selling our tix to the Sarasota Christmas show, but decided to go. Happy to say it was a vast improvement over the November show - the band was tight and having fun, and Brian seemed much more animated and present. As I read in another review of an earlier show, "Hasn't he earned the right to just sit back and enjoy his music, if that's what he decides to do?" I vote yes. He's not the Brian of 1999 (nor IMHO, is the band), but then again, neither am I. As someone replied years ago when asked why they would spend their time and money to see a 65 year-old Bob Dylan, "Because I can."

Likewise, the Christmas show in Hammond IN revealed a depleted and uninvolved Brian, though the band was boss.  The shows seem to be a hit-or-miss affair, some very good and others flat, even alarming.
