Well done, stkilda4ever.

Those scores are in the book.

It was the third time around for ‘California Girls’.

Its record is:

- a Gold in Week 26 of Season I, 1st in Preliminary Final, 3rd (Season Bronze) in Gold Play-Off (Kevin Witts),
- a Gold in Week 1 of Season VIII (Cindy Hood),
- a Gold in Week 9 of Season X (stkilda4ever)

This week’s scores were 47.5 points and 33.93% from 14 voters.

Its previous scores were 70.5 and 32.04 from 22 voters (Season III) and 52 and 40.00%* from 13 voters (Season VIII).

* one of just two Gold winners ever to receive unanimous Golds in its week. It still didn’t make play-offs, owing to just 13 voters that week; at that time, the lowest voter turn-out in nearly six years. 'Caroline, No' (The Beach Boys), in Week 11 of Season III (Al Forsyth), is the other song to receive all the Golds in a week. It finished 6th in that year’s Preliminary Final.

In the Ultimate Battle, conducted after five seasons of the Battle wherein the three annual medal winners took part, 'California Girls' came a respectable 4th. All other songs in the first nine place getters have won a season now, although it should be noted that the version of 'Surf's Up' that came 6th in the Ultimate Battle was from Surf's Up and not the Season VII winner from The Smile Sessions.

These were the scores (from 28 voters).....

1. God Only Knows (The Beach Boys - 1966) (Season II Gold - Cynthia D. Hood) (six 1st places*) - 318.5

2. Good Vibrations (The Beach Boys - 1966) (Season I Gold - Cynthia D Hood) (nine 1st places++) - 305

3. Wouldn’t It Be Nice (The Beach Boys - 1966) (Season III Gold - Cindy Hood) (two 1st places+) - 257.5

4. California Girls (The Beach Boys - 1965) (Season III Bronze - Kevin Witts) (nil 1st places) - 231

5. Don’t Worry Baby (The Beach Boys - 1964) (Season III Silver - Teenage Symphony) (two 1st places) - 221

6. Surf’s Up (The Beach Boys - 1971) (Season II Silver - Cynthia D Hood) (four 1st places*) - 220

7. Surfer Girl (The Beach Boys - 1963) (Season IV Gold - Jo McGuire) (two 1st places) - 191

11. Heroes & Villains (The Beach Boys - 1967) (Season I Bronze - t Bedford) (two 1st places+) - 183.5

12. Penny Lane (The Beatles - 1967) (Season IV Silver - Al Forsyth) (nil 1st places) - 177

13. Fun, Fun, Fun (The Beach Boys - 1964) (Season IV Bronze - Kevin Witts) (nil 1st places) - 144.5

14. The Little Girl I Once Knew (The Beach Boys - 1965) (Season II Bronze - Verden McCutcheon) (nil 1st places) - 133.5

* includes a three-way tie for 1st place
+ includes a two-way tie for 1st place
++ includes two two-way ties for 1st place

It was the seventh entry for the Ronettes.

Their record:

Monday, Monday (a Tin in Week 9 of Season X - stkilda4ever)

‘California Girls’ is an outside chance of making play-offs in its own right.

‘Be My Baby’ looks likely for the Silver Play-Off. If it wins or is runner-up, ‘California Girls’ will automatically progress.
