Before Deb's week closes, here a dog-free, odd sound classic -- that tin panny (not to be confused with tympani) sound at the very end of "Helter Skelter" that follows Ringo's outburst:

plus, of note, his reply to a concerned fellow drummer:

Shared bronze, Deb.  They can fight over it.  (No, I think of it as like the Olympics, where they would get one bronze each).

Technically, bronze is already made from tin (wikipedia says around 12%)! Just to confuse everyone.

I went 1:01:36 with Lou Reed. It was gloriously random.

Here is some machine music humans may enjoy:

Buzz, that fancy Rube Goldberg marble machine contraption was actually pretty cool!

I hope you didn't blow any circuits or fry any motherboards listening to the Lou Reed album in its entirety.

a quick insert as now back swaying and fumbling in the land of dryland.

gold: 'o carol, i am but a fool...
though you treat me cruel...'

silver: 'well they say time loves a hero;
but only time will tell if he's real...'

bronze: 'ghost riders in the sky,
yippee
i-o-o-o-o-o...'

tin: 'hey, let me in.
clumsy, crawling out of my skin...'

i may, of course, be a trifle deluded,
since i don't really recollect
neil sedaka
little feat
,
stan jones / marty robbins / johnny cash...
or
r.e.m.
featuring in the original choices,
but i'm sure it's workoutable, like...

cheers

Thanks, Paul, for voting and that thought-provoking comparison of the lineup with Neil Sedaka, Little Feat, Stan Jones / Marty Robbins / Johnny Cash and R.E.M.

We’ve heard clocks, bells, trains, glass breaking, water bottles, jet engines car engines, motorcycles, fuzz guitar, and way too many dogs through the week.  There were some interesting videos, some of my favorite included bonnie’s and buzz clic’s very unusual instruments.

Thanks to 18 Voters, there are 180 total points to award:

The Beach Boys - Caroline, No------------------------------------------ 61 points

  11 Gold;   3 Silver;  4 Bronze,   0 Tin,

The Doors - Riders on the Storm--------------------------------------- 48.5 points

  3 Gold;   7 Silver;  5 Bronze,  2 Tin,   1 Gold Tie

Pink Floyd – Time---------------------------------------------------------- 39 points

  1 Gold;   5 Silver;   5 Bronze,   5 Tin,   1 Gold Tie ,   1 Bronze Tie

Paul McCartney & Wings - Let 'Em In--------------------------------- 31.5 points

  2 Gold;   2 Silver;   3 Bronze,   10 Tin,   1 Bronze Tie

So I pass the baton to Tom...a lovely theme… choose your libation wisely!

And, so much for the dogs, too.  But wait. Hey, Chuck, do you think we could get a horse in here?

lee,
my footie skills were negligibible
(though our local team, brighton & hove albion,
is poised for promotion to the premiership
- a draw this afternoon held 'em back a little...)
and, even if i wish i'd invented rugby
as a way of legging it away from the more butch boys,
i've never indulged.
iwas a cricketplayer
- and more delicate parts are protected in that game!

''owzat!', as they say...

I forgot to post last week, but my order was the same as the results, so it didn't make any difference!

Hi Deb.

I've just asked John E for clarification on whether he was referring to your week or the previous one (kds's) as he didn't vote in either.

It would be good to add his votes for this week.  Isn't the week before too far gone?

Well done, Deb.

John E confirms that he meant your week, so your updated scores are correct (and also what I had).

I'll put them into the book as soon as Admin sorts out an editing error I'm getting whilst trying to do so!

'Caroline, No' has an interesting history in the Battle.

In Season I, it won the Gold in Week 33 (Joy B) and finished 8th in the Gold Play-Off.

In Season III, it won the Gold in Week 11 (Al Forsyth) and is the ONLY song ever to receive unanimous Golds in a week.

Rachel Yamagata, Rickie Lee Jones and Westlife were the also-rans.

Despite its percentage (40%), its points total meant it only qualified for the Preliminary Final and went no further, finishing 6th.

It's now Gold in your week but its score means it will be hard pressed to qualify for play-offs.

Incidentally, Tony Clef's instrumental version of 'Caroline, No' won Week 5 of Season II (John Potter) and finished 10th in the Preliminary Final.

It was the second time around for 'Riders on the Storm'.

Verden used it (the single version) in his Week 15 of Season I.

It won a Bronze and finished 5th in the Bronze Play-Off.

It was the seventh entry for The Doors.

Their results:

Riders on the Storm (a Bronze in Season I, 5th in Bronze Play-Off - Verden McCutcheon),
Spanish Caravan (a Bronze in Season II, 9th in Bronze Play-Off - Cantina Margarita),
The End (a Bronze in Season II - Tom Tobben),
L'America' (a Bronze in Season IV - Verden McCutcheon),
End of the Night (a Bronze in Season VI, 10th in Bronze Play-Off - Verden McCutcheon),
The Crystal Ship (a Bronze in Season VI - Al Forsyth),
Riders on the Storm (album version) (a Silver in Season VII - Deb #1)

It was the fifth time for Pink Floyd.

Their results:

Us and Them (a Tin in Season I, 4th in Tin Play-Off - Verden McCutcheon),
Run Like Hell (a Tin in Season I - B B Fan1),
Shine On, You Crazy Diamond (a Bronze in Season II - Prodigal Son),
The Great Gig in the Sky (a Silver in Season VI - Verden McCutcheon),
Time (album version) (a Bronze in Season VII - Deb#1)

It was the second Wings entry.

'Let Me Roll It' (live) won a Bronze in Week 45 of Season I (Cynthia D. Hood).

Outside Wings and The Beatles, it was Paul McCartney's fifth entry.

His previous results:

Singalong Junk (a Silver in Season I - Teenage Symphony),
My Valentine (a Tin in Season III - Deb#1),
FourFiveSeconds (Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney) (a Bronze in Season VI - Al Forsyth),
Did We Meet Somewhere Before? (a Gold in Season VI - brent mcmullen)
