Do you know where you're going? Want to ask for directions?

I wasn't going to post again so soon, but then I realized I've never posted one of the songs below. That oversight needed to be corrected immediately.

Nat King Cole - "On the Street Where You Live" (this time with old footage of what looks like Los Angeles)

The Rolling Stones - "2120 South Michigan Avenue"

Creedence Clearwater Revival - "Side of the Road"

Bruce Springsteen - "Backstreets"

Lee, I've listened for the past two days.

Surely it's another week where a close contest has been sacrificed for the sake of having a theme. As if the ‘Boys’ aren’t going to win this.

Gold - Rockin’ Down the Highway (The Doobie Brothers - 1972)
I was hoping this would be the week’s salvation. It’s not, but it will have to do. I’m not a Doobies fan, but even I know they had better songs than this. The trouble with Tom Johnston songs is they mostly sound the same. Still, it’s a good sound, as opposed to the records they made with the bearded one. The guitar solo on this raises it a level or two. And the song doesn’t overstay its welcome.

Silver - Route 66 (Jeffrey Foskett - 1999)
Commendable job by the ultimate fanboy. Nothing original going on in there, mind you.

Bronze - Highway 61 Revisited (Johnny Winter - 1969)
I thought this would be my Gold because it’s hard to hide a great song. Then I heard it. How can anyone think this is better than Bob’s original? Winter’s voice sounds like Animal from The Muppets. All he’s done is copy Bob’s delivery and substituted that siren whistle for a slide guitar which is on the verge of drowning it. I love the way Bob sings it as if he’s making it up on the spot. I’m a Dylan fan.

Participant - Pacific Coast Highway (The Beach Boys - 2012)
‘Lookin' out on the morning rain, I used to feel so uninspired’….sorry, I must have drifted off for a moment there. A penny for Carole King’s thoughts when she first heard this. Jeff, could you have not sung for just one song on the ‘BEACH BOYS’ album? Maybe the song title should have been ‘You Make Me Sound Like a Natural Beach Boy’. Good title for the album too.

Tom used this in Season I…

Unfortunately, probably not everyone will be able to watch this…

Well there we have it.  Larry needs directions and Darren's already 'there'.  Land speed records have been shattered.  The petrol bills are through the roof.

It's about 20 past 5 in the AM here.  Time to start drinkin'.  No no no!!!  Coffee.  Better Roll on...toword the kitchen.

Okay Lee,

Votes (and not completely easy this week.

Gold Johnny does Bob
Silver BB's (so close)
Bronze to the Doobies
Tinner to Jeff - this was the only one out of it this week.

To get kicks:

Jeff's too clean.  Gotta swing to get to St. Louie properly.

Aztec Two Step revive a real old one (but beauty) - skip to two minutes in to miss the monologue.

Just heard Greg last week - his voice is even better ten years later:

His work with Brother Sun probably allowed for this to happen!

Quote:
the race starts at Sunset Blvd. and Vine St., traveling westbound on Sunset Blvd., passing La Brea Ave., Crescent Heights Blvd., and Doheny Dr....[A] curve, a nearly 90° right turn traveling west on Sunset just past Whittier Dr., may have been the "dead man's curve" in the song [edited]

Good ol' Iggy eh Bonnie?  I like pumpin' up some of his tunes when I'm driving.  Yes Larry...I considered the Stones for the big 'six six' but I figured that Jeffrey deserved a wee bit of oxygen here after all of his contributions over the years.  "Ultimate fan boy"?  I'd say he's been more than only that.  Stamos on the other hand?  Not so much.  Johnny Come Lately...Forever?  Never.

You're right, Lee.

Brian's stunt double.

And he did Brian's laundry.

I wish he'd stuck to the laundry.

Hmmm.  Doncha think that maybe he had a bit of a part in helping Brian cross the finish line with SMiLE?  I mean surely Darian was all over that project...and Van Dyke...and the Misses...but.  I'm glad he was there.  Perhaps his time ran out and he up and ran away but when Brian needed to finally, and at long last, take that final leap of faith and truly 'reemerge' he had some trustworthy support.

Oh, What You Do To Me, Lee!  This is an almost impossible feat - they're ALL good ones!

So, I've written each one down on a piece of paper, folded them up and drew them out of a hat.  Here's how they came out:

Gold:  Highway 61 Revisited - Johnny Winter.  This is the first time I've heard this one and it ROCKS!

Silver:  Rockin' Down the Highway - Doobie Brothers.  I've always loved the Doobies and this one is a really good one.

Bronze:  Pacific Coast Highway - Beach Boys.  Toning it way down to mellow, but it's beautiful.

Tin/Pewter:  Route 66 - Jeff Foskett.  I've never listened to any of Jeff's solo stuff and this one is quite good.

The fate of the draw is my final answer.
