This date in history I was one of many who set the course for New York to see Brian perform SMiLE at Carnegie Hall. What a great trip that was. Please share some memories here, I truly miss this adventure and all the fun we had. Surf's Up from Sweden

Hey Michael...l o n g  time!!!  October 6, 2004, 3 days prior to YOUR experience, I met up with a group of 'blueboarders' in a restaurant just across the street from the SMiLE performance at Massey Hall in Toronto and I subsequently shared the night's set list here at BW dot calm.  [2 versions of 'it' ago.]

Electric magic.  Lucy and I carted along oversized fake 'vegetables' which we shared with our immediate neighbours left and right of us and we collectively held them aloft at the appropriate moment in 'said' proceedings.  Sitting front row centre...Taylor Mills had no problem spotting us and pointed it out to Bob Lizik.  They both shared an authentic and solid laugh.

I ended up front row centre as, after following Andy Kim to the 'willcall' window, there had been a miscue re: my tickets in the 3rd row and they made it up to us with the upgrade.  [Like how do you still have front row centre tickets available...just in case?]  I remembered Andy.  He re: me?  Not so much ... and I used to work with his cousin Linda way back in the mid 70s in small town Northern Ontario radio.

From the outside looking in it was a remarkable performance.  Saw it again, along with more Blue Boarders, the following August [2005] at Place Des Art in Montreal.  Also a great performance.  I sat exactly right next to Melinda...row 6, center I think it was.  She was truly nice.  I made sure not to bug her.

Two of the best 4 concerts I've ever attended.  [first and 4th I'd say.]

Keep on rockin' Michael.  It's only been 14 years.  [seems more like 7 or 8.]

And you Brian D.?  How would you describe YOUR memories...from the inside...looking out?

I'm not going to further-lament about missing the SMiLE tour, but I do enjoy the stories - so keep 'em coming.

Lee - You mean this Andy Kim, the one who fooled me into thinking he was Neil Diamond in my junior high days?

He's always had an identity crisis in my eyes.  It's his own fault, posing as one of The Archies with "Sugar, Sugar" (hopefully, not Jughead).  Andy wrote that with Jeff Barry.

But, getting back to the theme, how 'bout a few, um, 'Barnyard' animals rocking gently to Andy's #1 North America tune...

I caught it in Saratoga, NY,  but it was 2005.  Tried to meet up with some BBers but instead went behind the venue and heard the soundcheck on our own.  I still remember Taylor Mills taking some leads in the SC particularly on Sail On Sailor.  At the time I was there with a then lady-friend who turned out to be just the opposite.

Yes, Vegetables was fun with the Stockholm Strings being the veges. Everyone was in disbelief that they were actually hearing Smile LIVE!

What was 'her' name Al?  L. O. L. A./Lola? [wink] ["not that there's anything wrong with that...[biggrin]"]

Same Andy Bugs.  He was a friend of one of the guys...maybe Brian?  Or Carl?  It's actually Andy Yoakim I believe.  Lebanese I think.  Cousin Linda, [LaHam] I think that's how it was spelled.], set me up to do a phone interview with Andy just as Rock Me Gently was beginning to taper off only to be replaced with Fire Baby, I'm On Fire...brought to you by Preparation 'H'.  [wink]  The guy had a bunch of hits...at least 9 of 'em right across Canada.  Decent fella.  I DID say hello to him as we were picking up our tickets simultaneously.  I'll bet he doesn't remember THAT either. [biggrin]

Not a problem. [cool]
