I turned on Sirius "60's on 6" about an hour or so ago, just in time to hear the DJ, Pat St. James (think that's his name) announce that Brian Wilson's memoir is coming out on Oct. 11th and that on page 280, Brian writes that his next album, which he hopes to come out fairly soon, will be based on the songs that influenced him the most, e.g., "Be My Baby, "Tenderly" by Rosemary Clooney and about 3 or 4 other songs I cant remember.  Brian says he wants to record them, the way "he hears them in his head" and the way "he thinks they should sound like".  I might be paraphrasing here; sounds like another "re-imagining" type album. Hope he follows through!

Regardless of what he does and which way he goes...it'll sound great AND it'll be interesting.  Every now and then Brian doesn't smack it out of the park [for me] but generally he does and HIS 'bunts' are still worth the price of admission.

[Don't anyone misunderstand by the way...I'm NOT saying that Smiley Smile was a Brian "bunt".  It was a Beach Boys "bunt" which he ended up having very little to do with in terms of the finished/officially released 'versions'.  It DOES, though, include Love You...Yes John B...but only just barely.]

Well this sounds really interesting too. I love the idea of Brian covering names like Rosemary Clooney because it introduces fans and possibly a new generation to a wonderful artist they may not be familiar with. Like with the Gershwin album, now my kids not only love Brian and the Beach Boys but Gershwin too. So 'Go Brian!', knock it out of the park! (And now we have two new albums to look forward to!)

Amazon's "Look Inside" the book feature doesn't include page 280, but on page 281 Brian seems to refer to the Rascals' "It's a Beautiful Morning" (the page begins: "... Morning by the Rascals"). He also says he wants to finish the Beach Boys' "Loop de Loop" and "there are other newer songs too".

This may in fact be the Rock & Roll album he's often referred to, because I think he's said before that it would include other people's songs he especially liked. I don't think we should have ever assumed it would be all up-tempo stuff if and when he released the album he's had in mind.

As with all such projects, of course, a wait and see attitude makes the most sense for us fans. [smile]

It sounds like Brian might've changed the idea from being a pure Rock album to covering some of his favorite songs regardless of the genre from the 50s, 60s, and 70s.   "It's a Beautiful Morning" given the Brian Wilson treatment could be a nice gem.    I know at one point Brian was at least hinting about doing a Sinatra covers album.   I don't think I'd like a whole Wilson sings Sinatra album.   But I could see Brian taking a crack at something like "The Summer Wind".

Whether it's all covers or some covers mixed in with new songs, I can't wait for Brian's next album.   I think he has something pretty ambitious in mind.   It seems like he wants to cover not just songs that he likes but songs that for whatever reason had a big impact on him over the years.   He's mentioned doing songs as wide ranging as Rosemary Clooney's Tenderly to CCR's Proud Mary.   I would imagine he'll obviously do a cover of Be My Baby.[smile]  Brian did do the song on the Roxy live album but at least as far as I know has never put out a studio recording of it.

Didn't Brian lend vocals to a Mike Love cover of Be My Baby?  I'm not 100% if he just does harmony or provides any lead.

Either way, a well produced studio version of Brian and his band doing the song would be awesome.

Here are ones I think should appear. Pardon if they've already appeared on an album.

Just the fact that we might get ANOTHER Brian Wilson album is reason enough to be giddy!
