Hi all,

The song of the week for this week is Surfin' USA from The Beach Boys Surfin' USA.  It is a happy, dance song about surfing all over America.  This is an upbeat and happy song for the summer.  We can have the summer feeling all through the year though.

Happy Listening!!!

I went to Rochester once.  No Surfing.  But then I did skateboard there...so sidewalk surfin'.  That count?

GREAT song.  The one that drew me through the door.  Once in...I stayed.  THIS was Brian at the control board not some other guy and Murry arguing about how to do it.  [and pretty much issuing a pedestrian result at best.]

Album 1 and almost everything on it?  No...not really.  Album 2 and most of what's contained there-in...especially the title song?  Yesireebob!!!  This was where 'attitude' met that certain silky smooth sound which constituted a degree of their group formulae ... many of which still work to this day.  [even if some key components have been replaced.]

Surfin' USA ruled the world.  [oh ... and ... thanks Chuck.]

You hit it, Lee - I can't really listen to any of the first LP (and that's understandable considering the cooks in the kitchen).  "It" started here...and continued as long as the Wilsons brothers were able to be the major contributors.

I agree with both of you! This was one of the first Beach Boys songs I was exposed to. It didn't quite get me hooked but I love it. The first album though, not so much. Even though the music for Surfin' USA was courtesy of Chuck Berry rather than Brian himself, I still think it is a fantastic record. Definitely a classic.

Lee has said it on here before, and I agree, that Surfin USA was really the debut of the classic BB song.

Over five decades later, the song still holds up, and doesn't fail to bring down the house whenever it's done in concert by Brian and Al or Mike and Bruce.

kds is right, the song has stayed cool.  Somehow surf music doesn't date in the same way a lot of other stuff does.
