Terrific moment on the No Pier Pressure album.  And if anyone complains that it ISN'T Brian singing lead...well, Carl, Al, Denny, Blondie, Bruce and another guy whose name I tend to forget used to sing some post surfin'/drivin' era Brian project leads too.  These guest vocals on No Pier Pressure help to make the album outstandingly versatile... ... ...and both entirely enduring and totally interesting.

This specific song digs up musical memories of I'd Love Just Once to See You and Busy Doin' Nothing.  Jazzy Brian.  I liked it from the very first listen.  Love it now.  Thanks for the nudge Mary.  I just listened to the whole album for the first time in quite some time.  It's absolutely  G R E A T !!!

Some said...when the album was released that this was to have been the next Beach Boys album...following That's Why God Made the Radio.  It really didn't and doesn't have to be.  As is...it works perfectly.

"No Pier Pressure" IS Brian Wilson (as is "Pet Sounds").  He never cared about the who sings what, only that it sounded right (of course, he also implied that he gave a lead or two to his CUZ to pacify the guy in the '60s).  "On the Island" sounds right!  Zooey's voice is perfect for this song.

Not one of my go-to NPP tracks, but it's got a nice summer vibe to it, which is appropriate since, here in the mid Atlantic, summer is sticking around a little longer.

Makes me want to be somewhere with a cool drink in my hand (with a drink in my hand).

Historic Connection:  Brian directing the "Good Vibrations" video with fast-rising film cinematographer Caleb Deschanel, father of Zooey...and part of USC's 'Dirty Dozen' filmmakers in the 1960s (which included George Lucas) -

And a good interview of Brian...by Zooey...in 2008 at the Hollywood Bowl.  It's obvious how much Zooey respects Brian...and just a little obvious how smitten Brian is with Zooey.  "Harmony is my favorite thing" "Yeah, harmony is beautiful" -

I didn't know there was a connection there.

The only one I knew about was that Feel Flows was used in the movie Almost Famous, which features Zooey.

What a cool link!  Thanks, bugs, and thanks for the excellent links.

Brian is clearly enjoying this interview, he's so relaxed.

"On the Island" is a cute song.  I liked the video clip for it.
