To be honest, I'm not personal about Brian. I'm just a fan of many of the records he's made (like yourself) and fascinated by his backstory and the way it relates to the story of the American century. I'm interested in all that stuff.

I'm certainly not trying to convince anyone of anything. I just love the record and like discussing it & singing its praises.

Fair enough.

I'm only participating in a discussion about the song Good Time between you, John, myself, and Lee.

Love You is probably the biggest polarizer in the BB canon.  Just look at the differing opinions of Lee and myself vs you and John.

Luckily, the last few weeks of debate about the Love You album have brought more people to Mary's Song of the Week part of the forum.

HA!  I'll make a little room for you, Bonnie!  BTW, I'm quite fond of the song myself.

p.s. to Mary - I told you you'd get a lot of responses to this song (or any other on that there album)! [wink]

now that we said all that, I'd like to personally thank Lee for not mentioning the...tiny elephant in the room.  It cannot be called a 2 ton elephant or whatever the expression is.  More like a ornate miniature and comical elephant in the room, like on a keychain maybe.

...and that is the song 'Ding Dang'.   I tend not to mention things that detract from my argument (vocational hazard).  but yes, like CW says, this song is comical and maybe even a little bitter, and maybe yes, even a little sarcastic and Brian was certainly being a smart azz and putting people on and revenging the dang old Beach Boys.  (e.g. 'here's my new magnum opus...one of the best songs I ever wrote, this is the Beach Boys masterpiece you've been waiting for, Mike!  worked on it with another musical genius, can you believe it, and the lyric!  really gets to the heart of the male/female interpersonal conflict.)...
