Hi all,

The song for this week is What Ever Happened from No Pier Pressure.

VERY reminiscent of the mid 60s sound in terms of the melody and the concept...with far more appropriate lyrics for what long ago became a mature audience...aka Big People.  Proof that when it comes to circa this day and age...Brian, at least, 'gets' it...That pickin' up 'chicks' at the local burger stand is ever so passe.

I like it a LOT.

Thanks Mary.  Welcome back to the orchestra pit.

Yes!  A VERY strong track from a very good LP.

Agree with everything Lee says on this one.

Easily my favourite track on NPP and has been since the first time I heard the album.

More a fragment than a song (was it originally conceived as a part of the fabled 'life suite', I wonder? ) the lyric is all scattered commonplaces - 'Whatever happened to my favourite places?' - 'What's going to happen to me?' - suggesting an aged mind looking back & trying to sum everything up but unable to quite find the words.

As an arrangement/production it's a bit of perfection - surely those backing vocals are the crown of NPP - beautifully alluding to Today side 2 perhaps even more than Pet Sounds - & with that gorgeous Carol Kaye-style bass part. 'Whatever happened to yesterday morning?'

Nice touch how the song wafts him back to present days and present love at the end too.

I love Whatever Happened, and I think this should've followed This Beautiful Day to lead off the NPP album.

Agreeing with everyone ^ Good choice, Mary.

Please stop by my battle week - as I'm starting to hear crickets and talk to myself.
