Hi all,

The song for this week is You're So Good To Me.  Brain is so good to all of us.

We've certainly been given a lot to treasure. Nice thought, Mary.

Basic, repetitious, but still great Brian music.

Another one is "I'm so lonely". Maybe next week eh?

First, kudos to Mary for re-resurrecting this thread - you are our forever shining star!

Good to see responses - maybe the newest tour has some of us paying more attention.

But to ZAC, I say "Whoa, partner!"  I understand your thoughts - it is basic (sort of), and repeat it does.  And of course it's great Brian Wilson music.  But if you're compelled to post only once every few years, I'm surprised you don't elaborate about these three observations.  Perhaps telling us why it's still great BW music.  Maybe it's the way Brian arranged the guitar riff to repeat, yet jump out of the backing track at times, or the way Brian sings the melody to get certain words to jump out.  Maybe he was emphasizing the way his lover was so faithful, at the same time he was creating a cohesiveness in the song...which surely made this a complex song for 1965!

I suspect you're a  l o n g - time fan who could help teach the younger readers about Brian's music.  And just because there haven't been too many posts lately, young people are reading this forum.  We need more posters who can teach.
You mentioned next week - wanna take a stab?

-Doug

Thanks Bugs.

I'm always a proud and devoted fan of Mr Wilson so I hope I didn't come across in anyway negative, however, some of his songs are below his normal high standard.

Brian's music is paramount in my mind at any given time.
He is a magician with all manner of musical talent. A God given gift to create some of the most melodic, meaningful, harmonious and memorable music ever known to man.

From day one however, I have always regarded YOUR SO GOOD TO ME  as just a great bop.

Not one of Brian's most creative but one to still appreciate for its simplicity.

For next week, as I'm an old dog with limited tech knowledge on how to upload my suggested song of "I'm so Lonely" by BW, I'll try but if I don't succeed someone more tech savvy will oblige maybe?

In the mean time, I look forward to further discussion as time permits.

Cheers, Zac Miscellaneous 013.jpg

You're So Good to Me rocks!  Period/Exclamation(s)!!!!!  Again, one of Brian's best vocals but he sings it in earnest and then the falsetto (love it) climb which peaks with "you're my baby" with the Beach Boy vocals providing the structure behind. It's his paean to Marilyn - she understands him.  She's so true - how come she is?

The Ladies honoring the Dads - it works both ways"  You're So Good To Me.

So a challenge to Doug, drop by the Battle of the Bands this week for a mighty good battle and then NEXT week to see why and read even more. [biggrin]  We need you, man!

Beside the guitar work, those lalalalalalalas are anything but basic.  The driving beat is pure energy. JMHO.
