Personally, I would really love to hear Garth Hudson, formerly of The Band, playing on new Brian Wilson material, especially if it had Van Dyke Parks sort of Americana lyrics.

Fairly certain that THAT is not going to be a part of the next aural project or of its general direction. ...  ie:  No Van Dyke.  No Garth.  No Americana.

That's a pity.  I would love to hear a record like that.  Of course, Mr. Wilson long ago earned the right to do whatever kind of project he wishes, or, indeed, no project at all, if he would be happier idle.

It sounds like, if he does anything, it's going to be the Rock and Roll album.

Until I heard Run James Run, I would've wanted Joe Thomas far away from a rock and roll album, but that song has plenty of energy, and sounds pretty good.

I would also hope that Al and Blondie would be involved as well.

But isn't there a 'record' like that already?  I mean sure...no Garth...but Brian Wilson Presents SMiLE is a pretty amazing peek into Brian's [and Van Dyke's] vision of Americana from a specific perspective.  A 'peak' indeed.  And then there's also the Beach Boys version post BWPS.  'Peaking' yet again.

No...as kds posted...Rock 'n' Roll seems to be the item Brian needs to address in order to bring his career, and body of work, full circle.   Then he might, perhaps and fittingly, close it on down, stop, and smell some roses...or coffee...or maybe some country air.

Cities do have their limits.  Americana/Canadiana works fine for me.  [Garth is a Canadian...after all.]
