After listening to Brian Wilson Presents Pet Sounds Live, I'm still wondering why the recording did not include the wonderful symphony orchestra that accompanied his shows in that tour.  My daughter and I attended a 2000 show in Ann Arbor, Michigan, and I can testify to the powerful boost they gave to the whole performance.

Some may recall that, before Brian took the stage, on that early tour, the orchestra performed a 20-minute medley of Beach Boys songs, cleverly arranged and orchestrated by Van Dyke Parks.  The CD's lack of at least a string section really deflates "Don't Talk," "I'm Waiting for the Day," "God Only Knows," etc.

Last October I was able to attend the 50th Anniversary tour last year.  Alas, no orchestra.

Does anyone know whether any of the recent shows have included one?

There were supposed to be 3 shows in Nashville in May with the National Symphony Orchestra but they had to be postponed due to Brian's surgery

Too bad.  The show really lacks something without, at the very least, a string quartet.  There is a recording floating around of the 2000 Pet Sounds show with all the trimmings.
