It would have been Carl's 72nd birthday today. Let's honor him by listening to his angelic voice. Any suggestions/links?

The voice of an angel but don't forget the musical talents.  That opening to Surfin' USA gets me every time.  He was so important to the band in soooo many ways!

I had the great privilege of watching Carl working with Stephen Desper on a mix-down at Wally Heider's (around the corner of the Ivar offices) on "Sunflower". My contribution: cheeseburgers and fries. But Carl was so appreciative of the fans that he asked my opinion on the mix. I think mine must have matched his, because he apparently used it. I think the band and fans were so well-trained to hear Brian's sound that we might have all shared the same feeling though - Carl and Stephen knew how to do it!

The Wilsons were all generous with their musical gifts. Brian so patiently explained things to me in layman's terms so that we could discuss various songs. Dennis had a heart the size of the planet. They were/are such treasures to us all.

And another treasure you've shared, Debbie - thank you!  "Sunflower"! - All good!

In my post earlier this morning (5 hrs, it says), I thought about asking you to share a Carl story...but feel I/we ask too much of you already.  So thank you...again.

I never mind if you ask. You're a good guy. If I can't think of anything at the time, I'll just say so. They are mostly fond memories. The others were sometimes terrifying ([biggrin]) or mostly funny.

Debbie, Carl and Steve Desper put together one heck-of-a mix. One of my fave BB albums but the recording, arranging and yes, mixing of this album is brilliant. Thanks for sharing this today.

Thanks Al. I hope it got across that any fan could have experienced this. But I was a stubborn kid who loved this music and these people with a passion who was at the right place and time. Okay, I positioned my way there (damn the torpedoes), and my parents acquiesced because I was so stubborn and they loved me. Bless them both. It's fun to tell the stories.

Thx for sharing this, Bonnie. Fun Carl...and that he was.

I remember him backstage (1969?). He kept singing "Wooly Bully" in his ironic and charming way. We keep forgetting about how much these guys loved humor.
