Thor: Hi, Gil.
Gil: Hi, Thor. Listened to NPP lately?
Thor: Yeah.
Gil: Still dig it?
Thor: Ya bet.
Gil: Don't all those woodblocks get on your nerves?
Thor: Nope, I dig them 'blocks. Dig anythin' with wood in it.
Gil: And the autotune?
Thor: Autowhut?
Gil: And the typically slick, adult contemporary production values by Joe Thomas?
Thor: Look, I ain't no darned perfesser. When I say I dig it, I dig it, and that's the end of it. I'm only in two minds on that Last Song bit: I dig it, but it make me teary up, and then I wanna smash somethin'. (Raises Hammer)
Gil: Hey, put that down please.
Thor: Yeah, sorry. And whaddaya think of the whole bunch?
Gil: Oh, I love the album, more than at first listen. Still give it a spin about twice a week.
Thor: And not bothered by them 'blocks, autotoons and perdiction valleys?
Gil: No, I'll let "perfessers" worry about them.
(Runaway Dancer starts in the background)
Thor (putting down Hammer): Do you wanna dance?
Gil (putting down Daiquiri): All I wanna do!

Thanks for the spoof of the two clowns (not meant in a good sense) on "another site."  It's amazing what self-absorbed BS passes for something to do - and is applauded by a few other apparently bored beings - on MBs. Everyone seems to be wrapped up in "selfies," I fear, thinking that their half-baked conclusions and weird personal opinions matter.  Uh, no...

You're welcome! Everybody is entitled to their tastes and opinions, but I am too, and my own is that that kind of extreme, and on the whole obviously hostile, dissecting would kill the joy out of anything.

And the guy's opinion changed so abruptly.  I'd love to know why.  Truly.

I read a tiny bit of the thread on the other board and decided life was too short to read the whole of it. There are reviews and there are autopsies and you ought to do those on things that are dead. No Pier Pressure is alive and kicking IMO.

Compliments thorgil for the satire!

on the whole,
i found the tenor of your post
inflamatory,
antagonising,
feather-rufflingly vexing
and otherwise hackle-raising.
not only that,
the self-absorbed inner conversation
spills out as nothing more than
a narcissistic grandiose pointy-pointy-at-myself,
whilst, simultaneously,
exuding a cynical, rank dismissal of
the intellectual niceties of learned scholars
who seek to examine, explore and expand upon
the minutiae of musical marvels.
plus, your choice of hues in differentiating
the twin voices that ply for dominance
in what purports to be a balanced brain,
merely underlines the primary-coloured specs you use
in demonstrating a lack of depth in your perception.

or am i confussed and have (yet again) misunderstood?
cheers

Wow, pga, you learned all about my personality by reading about twenty lines of text. Congrats.

"Why, look you now, how unworthy a thing
you make of me! You would play upon me, you
would seem to know my stops, you would pluck
out the heart of my mystery, you would sound me
from my lowest note to the top of my compass;
and there is much music, excellent voice, in this
little organ, yet cannot you make it speak. 'Sblood,
do you think I am easier to be played on than a pipe?
Call me what instrument you will, though you can
fret me, yet you cannot play upon me."

So Thorgil, you actually made some sense of that post?  I'm impressed.  Can you clue me in?

Though shrouded in pseudopoetry, the gist of it is that I am a narcissistic, cynical tool. For some reason, people on the Internet feel free to say such things in public about people they don't know at all.

oh, gilly,
'i am slain!'
yet,
'let me wring your heart, for so i can,
if it be made of penetrable stuff,
if damned custom have not brass'd it so
that it is proof and bulwark against sense...'

add a hamlet complex to the cauldron.
i'm afraid you misinterpret my addition to the stew
within the witches brew
(ok, so that's macbeth, but, whatever, what?).

my face was firmly pointed about face.
my tongue was entirely poked in my cheek
yet you take my cheek at face value.
you appear to see a rebuke
and offer a rebuttal,
but my butt is firmly pointed netherwise
at what is exuded in those other places
and my offering a mere, um,
reinterpretation of  such silly biliousness.

honest, guv,
you've got it all wrong, like.
if it upset you,
mea culpa and give me 50 lashes...
but,
no, don't go down the 'but me no buts' route,
nor stab me behind the arras,
if your irony quotient is a trifle rusty,
i prithy, have a reread, squire.
there was nowt there to diss you, pal.
i really enjoyed your post.
i did.
i did.

if you've read some of my previous comments
here on this board of blue,
over years and years,
on the goings on over there,
you'd've likely seen that my words were
merely an observation on overly-testosterone-filled-poop.
my inclination is to take the piss
and, thus, i did enter upon this enterprise
in much the same fashion as did you.

but, it appears, you didn't twig...
oops!
ah well,
say 'farewell' to this 'wretched, rash intruding fool...'
and,
to quote cristobal de morales,
'parce mihi, domine'
('spare me, o lord').
oh, and,
here's a slice of one of my very favourite works
to appease you and ease your troubled mind.

cheers

I DID get it! At least, I suspected that it was what Paul was doing but couldn't be certain. And I thought that if I had pointed out the meaning, everyone would have replied 'WE KNOW!' Paul's criticism of the thor/gil spoof was a criticism of that which it emulated.

..."Vaulting ambition, which o'erleaps itself,
And falls on th'other..."

Edited to thank Paul for Parce Mihi Domine though.

Paul, I'm relieved though quite a bit ashamed [frown] . Yes, the irony quotient is rusty in this old brain. My only excuse is that your piece was very subtle indeed (and brilliant, I see, now that I'm in the know). Sorry for misunderstanding, and thanks for further great music by the great Jan.

All's well that ends well.
And thanks for the musical "lagniappe"! Garbarek is wonderful.
