Yes, friends, we have lost t Bedford.

t passed away 12:04am, February 12th.

I know that plenty here, like me, will be gutted by this news.

I know that t and many of us corresponded quite regularly.

He had a lot of internet friends.

From our recent e-mails, he told me he’d been in hospital with severe pain for five days at the end of January, and had been diagnosed with cancer of the pancreas which had also spread to his liver.

He thanked me for being ‘a solid friend’, and I prayed it wouldn’t be the last time I heard from him. Alas, it was.

In recent times, as t was the main person in the U.S. who checked YouTube clips for me, we would correspond every week. He often had some funny stuff to say re: the songs.

But, of course, long before that, we had regularly corresponded.

I’d been firm friends with t for nearly 16 years through this board.

We didn’t always agree on things.

Unlike me, if any music was what his parents would’ve listened to, it was anathema to him.

After one debate we’d had on the board, he wrote to me and said he hoped we were still friends. I replied, “Don’t ever doubt it”. And so it was.

We had a lot in common and would regularly talk about music and women!

I felt very close to t.

I remember back in about 2003, someone asking in a post who everyone’s favourite Blueboarders were. I responded with “t Bedford and (someone – not sure if it was Tom Tobben or Bobby Pennock) are decent”. Thus started our friendship.

When the Battle began in 2010, some may recall a host would host for two weeks and then announce who the next host would be. Sure enough, I passed the conch onto t.

Plenty here would know how generous t was.

He’d ask for your postal address and, sure enough, some treat would appear in the mail. And not just once.

It’s going to take me a while to get my head around this. He passed away yesterday. It was my birthday.

I am hoping some folk here can take the opportunity to regale us with some t tales once the shock of this has subsided and memories flood back.

I know we’ll miss him a lot.

RIP t (Thomas) Bedford (October 15, 1950 – February 12, 2019) AKA Buzz Clique – Brian Wilson devotee, Kinks mega-fan, XTC nut, Lovin’ Spoonful fan, nose kazoo player…. very good friend to us all.

It is so sad to know we have lost t, and so suddenly. t has been one of our most regular and most active BOTB participants over the past nine years, and for a number of years before that elsewhere on the old Brian Wilson "blueboard". After so many years together here, t was another big music fan and someone I felt I knew well, though we had never met in person.

t took his music seriously and besides his love of Brian and the Boys' music, he also regularly reminded us of some of his other favorite musicians, such as the Kinks, the Who, XTC, Del Shannon, Arthur Alexander, and of course his favorite hometown Cleveland artists, like the Outsiders, Raspberries, Eric Carmen, Joe Walsh and the James Gang, Michael Stanley Band, etc.

Here's to the memory of one of our best and most active contributors and a fellow Brian Wilson fan.

Rest in peace, t, hopefully among some of your musical heroes in that legendary rock and roll heaven.

Nice picks, Tom.

I feel like the battle has lost a finger.

Bonnie and all,

We've lost a lot more in spirit.  I still can't get over this and you may be correct about our new missing man formation/fingerless hand who was SUCH a part of this community and of course BotB contributor.  It just doesn't seem right. The Battle and Board will be looked down on from above:

The angels are listening in:

And ALL of the Libera pieces are trying to heal:

Hello Everybody,

Thank you all for the heartfelt sentiments for Tom, his family, and scores of friends.

Tom spoke highly of all his pals on the Brian Board and shared your stories with me.

Tom and I hung out together here in the Rock Capital, Cleveland and had
been pals for over 30 years.  I spent a lot of time with him the past few
weeks but one of the best was when he was in Hospice, pretty doped up
on Morphine and Methadone, we played the "Smile" album for him, he
smiled and even in his catatonic state he was trying to mouth the words.
Music truly moved his soul.

It is amazing how much music affects us all and brings us together.

We also went to a few concerts over the years with the last one being Brian Wilson
at the Rocksino in Northfield, Ohio.

Tom taught me about the real stories behind the bands.

He did share his love for music with all of us.

It is hard to hold back the tears each day because he was my best pal and he went way to fast.

Someone once told me that cancer was a gift from God.  I questioned his statement and he said
that cancer gives you time to say goodbye and make your peace with the world.  I'm so happy
that Tom was able to converse with all of you during his final days in this crazy world.

Tim (a.k.a. Byrdboy )

Nice tribute.  Sorry for your loss. I have two close friends who both began their battles with cancer this month.  Here's hoping for a happy and healthy year for all the 'Community'.

Sad to hear about our old battle buddy t bedford.

I passed an old Winnebago on the road about a week ago and thought of t..

t inspired me to dig deeper into the Kinks music because of his obvious love for it and I'm glad I did.

Thanks for all the groovy tunes t. You were one cool cat.

This one's for you.

Sorry to hear about the loss of t Bedford..He will certainly be missed around here.He was very knowledgeable about popular music and had interesting stories to tell.I will always remember the time I referred to him as Ted trying to guess what t stood for.He certainly took me to task over this but led to a funny debate among everyone one as to what it actually stood for.

Crikey that's a shock . Though we didn't really directly converse , I often noted that he seemed to have similar music taste to myself . Commiserations to his family and friends . R.I.P. "t"

We're not the Justin Bieber board here. Our average age, I suppose, is 50 years older than that. What I'm feeling right now, for the first time in my life, is having lost a brother in mind ( I don't dare to say a good friend, that's something different). He won' t be the last case like it, and I hope I won't be either. We're all persons, humans, smart souls for sure, but this reminds us that the rest of our lives is not likely to be much longer than a young dog or budgie.
For the rest of us, there must be another mourning without u. And therefore, I'm asking for week 4 (see also in the schedule thread). That's the best I can do.
Thank you Darren and byrdboy, for informing us. Really sad. RIP t.
