there was a wonderful night at the Sony Center in Toronto.  It WAS cold, but the spirit inside was warm, if not quite cozy.

The Sony Center is like great big cavern with all the echo and resonance of the real thing.  The music and the venue were an appropriate fit for each other.  Blondie especially took advantage of the fantastic venue acoustics to present one of the most ethereal a cappella intros to Feel Flows that just made your hair stand on end.

It is a dark venue, but all the better to watch the light show. It was just a joy to watch.  It's getting to be such a show!  Those behind the scenes folks know their stuff.

The concert was advertised as A Greatest Hits show but morphed into a A Greatest Hits and Pet Sounds Show into finally A Pet Sounds show.  Just as fine.  Brian's getting stronger and even the Pet Sounds set is showing that. I'm not out to convince anybody of anything anymore.  If you haven't seen Brian in a while it can be startling to see him struggle.  If you've been paying attention the last few months you can see he's making strides.  He's singing stronger and for longer periods of time. He's walking better. But, yes, he struggles.  The will in Wilson.

I got to see the soundcheck. I took a few pictures and then quit. These are even better than Kansas City, bugs! [wink]

I wish I knew what Paul and Al were saying. It looks serious.

"Brian, you do realize it's at least 70 degrees in LA now..."

I quit after this one.

A few changes to the meet and greet  were made in Toronto. All the meet and greeters  got to have their pictures taken on stage at the piano with Brian, Al, and Blondie. I think it was far better than the photos taken with Brian, Al, and Blondie sitting at a table.  Some of those photos at the piano looked as if they would be suitable for framing.

We were also treated to a tease of Christmas holiday show selections at soundcheck. [love] I'm not going to scoop the set.  But I will say that with what I heard anybody who plans on going to a holiday show is in for a serious, serious treat.

Hey Deb, I second everything. I was at the show too (a bit further back) and it was a wonderful evening. I wished I could have been at the sound check or meet & greet but it wasn't possible this time. What was a wonderful show. Carnie's husband Rob did a fantastic job on the falsetto parts. It was good to see all the regulars in the band, and always such a thrill to see Brian perform. His back seemed to be giving him some trouble but the band was looking out for him, they seem like a very tight knit family on stage. Will power for sure, there is also a lot of love there. I am thankful for every opportunity I get to see Brian on stage.

One of the highlights of the evening for me was the standing ovation after 'God Only Knows', it was an incredible, very moving experience. Brian was so humble about it "Thank you, please take your seats... ". His voice noticeably improved after that, I think it gave him a boost. Even though his voice has changed over the years, I find it only makes the songs on Pet Sounds that much more poignant. There is so much emotion in how he sings them, it's incredibly moving.

The light show was outstanding, the crew really outdid themselves. The only negative were the pages from the
theatre running around trying to stop people taking photos. I get it, but it's kind of futile in this day and age, and way more distracting than the phones. Thanks for posting those great shots of the sound check, it's great to see them.

Here's a shot of the setlist, I was lucky enough to run into someone who got one from the stage (there was no intermission as there was an opening act, but I think Brian and the band were on almost 2hrs!). It was a fantastic evening, I've been on a high for the rest of the week (in spite of the cold). This was billed as the last Toronto show but I really hope they'll come back.

I hope Brian and the band have a great time doing the Christmas shows (oh to be there... ), and I hope they're all able to enjoy a very well-deserved break over the holidays.

I think I was just off to your left, surfergurl.
I thought the pages running around were almost comical. I get it, too. There was far better photo equipment than iphones in use around me. The guy across the aisle had a digital camera with a huge viewing screen that I could almost read the display on. He recorded almost the entire Beet Root Revival set. The woman just behind me somehow got a dslr into the hall that had a nice big lens on it. There were plenty of phones, too. But If the hall was really serious about stopping the photos and recordings, I would have expected security to actually confiscate a phone for the rest of the performance or even take someone out. Instead they just gave warning after warning, running around and hissing. As soon as they left, the cameras came back out. It felt like high school.

LADIES - You rock.  You truly do.  You took us all in from the cold to that heart-warming show.  Great visual of Brian's health, the love and respect his band shows him, the arena's peculiarities, and the funny ushers.  Thank You!  [thumb]

The fires are fading in California as the rainy/snowy season starts, (U.S.) Thanksgiving leftovers fill the fridge, December is right around the Gregorian calendar corner, and the HOLIDAY SHOWS are even closer!  [biggrin]
