Sorry you couldn't give one last hug to your father, John...but it sounds like he felt hugged for years. You'll feel him in your children's hugs now.

thanks again, everyone. I'm now writing down a list of 'funny stories' I can tell at the funeral.
Please go back to Brian's great Christmas album. I was just singing the title song in my office at work. Hope co-workers don't complain.

Keep singing Brian, John, and get the stories down for that upcoming day. I've lost my folks for quite some time now - and remember them every day in some way. Music helps ease through. We carry their spirit in some special way.

John B, would you mind a "cyber hug" from me? It's not the same as dad, but I understand the loss.
(My own Dad passed 2 weeks before Christmas a decade ago after a valiant battle with prostate cancer. A sad absence yet a blessing as he was freed from that debilitating physical state). I honestly did play the album last night..so I'm semi-on topic. Good to hear you were singing at work -- that can be good therapy. Think I'd rather hear a co-worker singing or whistling rather than be miserable all day. Glad there's a lot of funny, happy memories. Cherish those...and continue to make Dad proud.

Was happy to see Brian post about this album today on Facebook and to see that it's now on iTunes.

Sorry for your loss, John, and a hug.
I sure wouldn't complain about a co-worker singing, especially singing Brian songs.

John, my condolences, I'm so sorry for your loss. I hope listening to the music helps you feel closer to your dad.
And Lisa, I'm sorry for your loss also. We have something in common, my dad also passed away from prostate cancer not that long after the holidays (in his case, 22yrs ago on January 18th). I always think of him especially at Christmas, as he was ill, and we knew it would be his last. Bittersweet. Sad about Carrie Fisher and now Debbie Reynolds one after the other. 2016, has been a rough year. I'm sure there are more on the board touched by the loss of loved ones, Christmas can be a difficult time for some, and there is so much pressure to be happy at this time of year. May I suggest listening to the live version of Brian singing 'Lay Down Burden' on Live at the Roxy, and his lovely intro, dedicating the song to anyone who's lost someone. I hope it's a comfort to you, and anyone out there having a 'blue Christmas'.

Now that it's November, it may be time for a reminder to pull out your copy (either now or around Thanksgiving, depending on your listening habits) of Brian's Christmas album. Hopefully some of the deeper cuts on the album will find their way into his live Christmas sets in the near future.
I think the album is terrific, but in some circles it didn't get a fair shot upon the initial release. I've been saying repeatedly if any of Brian's albums deserves a revisit or a fresh release, it's this one. I love Christmas music in general, but I think it's a shame not to hear at least a few tracks from this album in the same rotation and playlists next to some of what passes for Christmas music on many commercial radio playlists. Maybe get a push going by contacting some of the local stations and requesting some tracks, and maybe (just maybe) they'll re-program their computerized playlists based on demand. __________________
